CEL.. Help please. Philippines no dealership....

I have a 2007 R56 Cooper S. I live in the Philippines and there is no dealership here yet. I have the CEL light on and I don't know what's causing this. First, I thought it was the Forge BOV but when I had it removed, still, the light was not going off. The car seems to be normal on city driving but when I brought the car to the freeway, I noticed that I could hardly get past 150kph. The car seems to be loosing power on the 5th and 6th gear at 4800rpm and beyond.

Anyone experienced this? Can you guys tell me what are the possible symptoms?

First check to make sure you do not have any leaks from taking off the BOV.

Perhaps you implied, but did you use a scan tool to reset your CEL? It has now come back on. Some CELs will not clear automatically.

If you have a scan tool or access to a scan tool, what is the code? That will help in diagnosis.

The losing power makes me suspect a boost leak or the codes are not reset and limiting power.

Get a scan tool from Peak or Scangauge or go to a BMW dealer for scanning. You have to identify what that CEL code first. How much are the MCS there? Who imports them?

I will ask the shop who removed the BOV to recheck everything. I was not able to use a scan tool since I don't have access to one. Can I buy a scan tool online? What brand should I get? I understand that not all scan tools will work for the R56.

Hi ED955S, unfortunately, the BMW dealerships here cannot scan my car since their GT scanner software for the MINI is blocked. Will scangauge or peak work for the R56?

You can ask your friendly grey market importers to get one for you. I got mine for 2.3m pesos. That's roughly 50k USD. Mini dealership will be opening soon though. I think early November or something. Their MCS will cost 2.45m pesos roughly 52k USD plus they will bring in cars with no sunroof, no leather, no climate control, no HID etc....

I have the ScanGauge II, see the link in my sig below and read all the functions available.

Beyond reading and re-setting 'codes' it supplies the missing Temperature, Voltage, MP, FF, and twenty+ other 'Gauge' functions.

Click <here> for larger, expandable photo.

Each of the four displays can be quickly changed (with its button) to any function.

50K USD! Holly crap! Wouldn't want a Mini on as island without a dealer around. Hope they open soon nearby sooner than later!

Hi benibiker, our automobile import tax laws here really suck... They will be opening soon. Hopefully within this year but I don't want to be their first customer for service. They might experiment on my car! hahaha
