Seems like a common-ish problem.

If you are still under warranty you should be able to get a new key for free.

I asked Mike from Aesthetic Creations to make some domed decal replacements back over year ago. He was not interested....faced with 150 dollar fix from the Dealer and what ever he wanted to charge, I am sure he could have made $ on it.

I lost mine before my warranty ran out and got it replaced. Then 50,000 miles later, it was lost once again. Since MINI cares about it's brand so much, it seems that dealerships should be stocking these by the bagful and epoxying them in place as they come in!

That would be TOO logical, even for German engineering.

Same thing happened to my key went to the sevice department and asked if they could help me out. He got out this box full of keys that were suppose to be shipped back to the manufacturer for repair. He popped one off and gave it for me for free just ask the service not the parts guys.
