Had mine since May (03/09 build date) and so far a bad fuel pump and sticking sun roof when hot.
Don't know if it's true, but I was told by a service manager that the sunroof problems are related to the motors being underpowered; that the simple fix was to upgrade the motor, but instead those are just being replaced with identicall underpowered ones.
Two high pressure fuel pumps - 1st one leaked and had to take it back after 1 week- Replaced due to cylinder misfires at cold start up.
1 timing chain tensioner - Replaced due to cold start death rattle.
Had the roof stick a couple times. Now leave it cracked open on hot days.
The recently replaced pump may be leaking again. After the first pump was replaced, I smelled raw fuel in the the car after leaving a stop light or at idle. Now a get a faint smell when I open the hood. While the engine is running, I can put my nose close to the pump and smell fuel. I will be taking it back for a safety inspection.
still leaking cosmoline after 2500 miles other than, that oh and a rock chip no problems
Almost 20,000 miles and i found ANOTHER Cosmoline drip today on my right Front Fender. A 50/50 Solution of Simple Green/Water made it less noticable. I'll BW it before/after I wash Molly this evening and she should be good to go!!

My 09 Cooper with 3700 miles on him is currently at the dealer for the water pump squealing issue. They called yesterday and said that when they replaced the water pump and pulleys, the sound was still there. They are now contacting BMW headquarters to find out what to do. So I wait.
Other than that, I had a faulty rear window washer sprayer thingy, and the never-ending cosmoline running down the wheel arches. I've used Simple Green, seems to work. I also put some foam in the holes where the cosmoline is running from (a trick I learned from a fellow Week 11er, he used paper towels) - but I just did that right before the MINI went to the dealer, so I can't tell if it's effective yet.
FYI the Tire Pressure Monitoring System is VERY touchy, and my SA said it will get worse during the cold months.

I have an '08 and with 14k on the odometer I just walked outside today and saw a cosmolene drip. I have already had my trim pieces replaced once and supposedly they cleaned my engine compartment (or whatever they clean to get that to go away). So here's hoping I'm not in for another round of drips..
Got my '09 S in May... will hit 10,000 miles this week. No problems so far, but...
I think I had a mild instance of cold-start rattle yesterday... was parked with nose down-hill for several hours. I've been wanting that to develop so I can get the upgraded tensioner stuff. The whistling sound at various rpms is there, but not really worried about that. Lastly, the clutch pedal makes an annoying pop almost every time I take my foot off of it.
I will probably schedule a visit for the cold-start and have them take care of the other stuff at the same time.
Overall, I am more confident in its reliability than when I first got it and started spending time on this forum.

'09 MC w/ less than 1000 miles -- 1) with engine running but car in park, after a minute or so i hear a light tapping coming from the rear, almost like someone slapping the boot at a random pattern, don't know if it is exhaust related. 2) Moisture buildup inside left tail light after heavy rain. 3) When I change lanes on the hwy I usually hold the lever to flash the turn signal but sometimes I move it all the way until it locks in place. When i do this I can usually manually shut off the turn signal in case I choose to not go ahead with the lane change - but twice the turn signal would not disengage until I actually changed lanes.

The finish on the horn button center hub is peeling around the back edges. It looks like a thin layer of rubber/vinyl. Some of the spots that are peeling actually flap with a breeze. I'm leaving them hang until we get the car to the dealer. Took a look at my parents '09 R56 and theirs is doing the same, though they had not noticed it yet.

Oh yeah, 2 more things -- 4) sometimes when I close the hatch it doesn't close properly, using the same force. I have to do it 2 or 3 times before is closes properly. May be coincidence but seems to happen when I unlock the hatch using the hatch release button on the fob, unlocking all doors with fob hasn't given me a problem when closing the hatch.
5) and this only happened once after about 300 miles on the car, not really worth mentioning but thought it was just another MINI quirk -- merging onto a hwy going around a bend I heard a thumping sound coming from the front pass side tire that would speed up or slow down relative to my speed, I've experienced this sound before on other cars and it sounded like I had a bubble on the tire, it lasted for about 20-25 seconds. I do not have the run-flats - the TPM light did not come on, when I straightened out of the turn the noise went away and the car drove perfectly. I pulled over at the rest area about 1 mile down the road and inspected the tires. Nothing unusual and no thumping sound ever since, not even on the same road/turn.

Mine sounds like a Diesel sometimes on a cold start, seems to happen after a heavy rain or when I wash it when the engine is cold. MINI has gone dead twice now, stalled at a light once and all the dash lights went out. They came back on after about a minute car cranked and ran normally. Second time was on the Blue Ridge Parkway, pulled off at a overlook cut the car off and it would not restart for about ten minutes. The battery was not dead, the dash light just won't come on with the keyfob in place, car won't start.
I've been out of the loop on MINI's since i sold my '04 MCS.
I miss driving this car. Handle so well.
But with the Gen 2 model, has anyone experience any problems with the direct injection? Multiple misfire counts, MIL on? possible excessive carbon build up on the intake valves?
Got my 09 Oct of 08. Have just over 22,000 miles on it (yeah 3 zeros).
Passenger window dipper (reporgrammed and fixed)
Airbag / seatbelt lights on constantly (reinsulated a chaffed wire near sunroof)
I have you beat. Picked up my MCS in early March '09… broke 20,000 miles last week.
Issues:
- dealer forgot floor mat velcro (easy fix)
- brake fluid reservoir cap leaked fluid (replaced cap, fine since)
- numerous rattles that never want to show themselves at the dealership (very annoying with how much time I spend in the car)
- passenger seatbelt chime goes off with 10-15lbs laptop bag (dealer said it was normal - not annoying enough for me to press)
- heated seats are too warm (dealer at first said they could fix, then said they couldn't - not annoying enough for me to press)
- boot release on key fob works sometimes, but only if you hold it a bit… other times it sets off the alarm (eh, whatever)
- a couple cases of a weird noise from under the hood… different noises each time, and only lasting about 2-3 seconds (not much I can do unless the noises are more frequent/reproducible - not too worried about it)
- exterior A-pilar trim pieces warped on both sides of car (dealer replaced)
- hood scoop melting issue (not too annoying or noticeable, and from what I've read, the dealership won't do anything but replace it, so I'll just wait until my warranty is about to expire, then have them replace it)
I bought my '09 Pepper White Clubman 5 weeks ago, now has 1,400 miles.
My one problem is that I am spending as much on gas as I did with my SUV, even though I get twice the mileage.
I guess it has something to do with the fact that I always find the "long" way to get to my destination ;)

I have that very same problem. I even forget things at the store, so I can go back.
UPDATE: My last post was at 11K and the passanger window dipper (which is now fixed) was the only issue. She turned one year old and 15K on almost the same day two weeks ago, so I took her in for the first oil change. After the oil change:
1. Throttle is not as responsive.
2. Vibration right at the end of the clutch release.
3. Vibration (buzzing feeling) through gas pedel and MFSW under load.
4. Slight loss of power.
5. MPG fell from 45 to 41.
6. Clutch release is no longer smooth, but thumps into gear.
7. Engine sounds like it is in fifth when in sixth.
Now I realize this can not be due to the oil change (unless the tech's are complete retards), but it is very odd. Have a appointment at the dealer on Monday. I hope they can fix it and dont tell it is normal.
