Like many here, I have had my windshield replaced and apparently MINI's have a top rubber gasket which is specific to our cars and should be re-ordered along with a new windshield.
If your windshield is replaced no matter where or by whom, stop in to your MINI parts desk and pick up this gasket before having the new one installed and give it to the glass replacement technician to use.
The tech's do have their own rubber gasket material to use, but it is a generic piece, and comes on a roll, and cut off what they think they need.
The OEM Mini part ( wish I had the part no for ya ) is made of a better material and is properly contoured to fit our cars roof line and window opening providing a better fit and seal.....It was the suggestion of a MINI Employee that when changing the windshield, it would be best not to use the generic piece.
I was given this info recently and figured I would pass it on.
Happy Easter to all.

I had my windshield replaced a couple of months ago and the guy came armed with the OEM seal for the top...so it must be different from one glass company to another. I used GlassAmerica (was like $50 cheaper than Safelite, btw).
Something else to look out for is the A-pillar cover. It is quite likely that the glass guy will break one or both of them. The guy that did my windshield warned me ahead of time and said that the company no longer covers them if they break (since they often do). The first one came off fine, but the second one broke.

I had mne replaced last year, and yes the wind noise is "different" as posted by member above. Next time I will be ordering the necessary part.
A Pillar is an issue for sure. I called my MINI dealer: Inskip in Warwick RI, and asked SA Geoff for a referral to their auto glass "guy". See, I wanted someone with experience doing my car after reading so many horror stories here.
At the time the glass guy with MINI experience was on vacation, and I had to wait an extra week. But, in the end my A Pillars came out great !
It also would not be a bad idea to have some window molding clips on hand at the time of removal and installation. The glass guy I had took his time, but discovered that during a previous install of a windshield, the tech was not so careful and broke a few clips holding the chome and black strips on.....he spaced them out as much as he dared but at some point the whole trim piece will have to be taken off again and new clips put in...

Can the clips be removed without breaking, or do you need to replace them? Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop in Maryland/DC/VA to replace the windshield?
I have come to this realization now, after seeing what the glass company put in today . Taking it back tomorrow, and seeing if they'll put in the proper OEM piece. Hell, they quoted me $20 for a "new molding", I figured that was for the proper part...
The part that the glass company messed up is the long black piece that covers the top of the windshield between the windshield and the roof, from A pillar to A pillar, which might be the exterior black plastic trim piece?
Seems stressful and costly to replace the windshield
I have a rock chip that....well isn't in my field of vision but certainly hate that it's even there. However in replacing the window I'm thinking...
the A-pillars should be replaced
extra clips should be on hand
*now* need to make sure the right molding is installed
and I found a place that can install a window film on the front window to protect from debris and rocks.
I priced out with All Star Autoglass and safelite and they are really close. I would be looking at almost 1000 dollars after everything....I'm going to wait a while longer to replace.

Is this piece I need, #1? If so, the part number appears to be 51317155304
Could someone confirm?
Picked up the part from the dealer, and yes, this is the part that is needed. Glass company is taking the windwhield out tomorrow and fixing it with the proper parts tomorrow.

Thanks. We just had the windshield replaced a few weeks ago on our 2006 S Conv and I knew something didn't look right. The rubber trim/seal on the top of the A-pillar covers are now poking out towards the center of the windshield. I'm guessing that they are supposed to tuck inside the top windshield seal/trim.
Looks like All-Star Glass used generic off-the-roll, cut-to-fit trim. It's not even black. it's like a dark gray.
