Does shutoff fan run in cold weather?

If my memory is right, my Clubman S turbo cooling fan ran after shut off even in colder weather at the beginning of the winter. I'm in Louisiana and the weather isn't really cold anyway.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the fan wasn't running after shut off, instead I would occasionally hear a sound like something was trying to stop and start. Now I'm getting nothing.

Before the dealership tells me that "it's supposed to be that way", I thought I'd see if I should expect the fan to run on after driving say an hour or two in 70 degree weather?

The fan is on a temperature switch and will only run after shutoff if needed. Mine usually does not run after my 12 mile trip to work on the highway during weather colder than 22-23 degrees. BU t if it is warmer than that i does usually run.

If the car is only run for a couple of miles and did not warm up then the fan probably will not run.

But in weather of around 50 degrees you'd expect it to run after a 40 mile drive??

thanks.

It all depends on how hot your engine gets no matter what the temp outside is. Too many factors involved to say yes or no you have a problem. It's usually 80 degrees here in Hawaii and when I get home from work, sometimes the fan runs when I stop the car and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on how long I idled at a traffic light right before turning into my house. I think unless your car is overheating you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, expect it to run after virtually every drive, of any length and any temperature. At least, that's my experience.

I haven't driven it in sub-zero temps - but that is probably the only time it wouldn't operate after a drive!

That turbo sure gets hot...

It also has makes a difference if you run the compressor or not. The fan comes on automatically if your A/C compressor is running. This puts an extra load on the engine and it will get warmer - faster.

Check to see if your fan fuse is blown, it's either a 30A or 40A fuse in the engine bay on the driver's side. If it's blown, it's probably a 30A and needs to be replaced per campaign, with a 40A fuse.
