I'm over 38,000 miles and need to reset my oil light myself. In addition the dealer neglected to reset the service light during my last 5 hour waiting room endurance.
I own a scangauge II and have used the paperclip method on my Z3 BMW. Who has finally cracked this nut and found the method to reset R56 service/oil lights.
I'm 1000 over on my oil change (did the change already) and 8k over on the service light, and I'm about to trek from San Diego to the Monterey Historics this weekend, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks MINIDrivr for the speedy response. Leaving for Monterey in the morning and this worked!
Didn't work exactly as described there, but close enough. I think I did this instead:
close door (to stop incesant door chime)
insert key
foot OFF clutch and brake (to prevent starting)
press start
when service light comes up (almost immediately)
press stalk button to cycle through different service menu items.
when you are on the one you want to reset, press and hold stalk
it will now say reset ->
press and hold to reset ( a little clock will show for a moment)
you're done. Go have a beer.
this is missing a couple of step...
-go have another beer
-then another until optimal feeling of euphoria has been achieved
