Paint rubbed off in Bonnet/Engine Bay!!!

I was just finishing up removing the cosmoline from the engine bay I was using WD-40 and in one area I was very gentle in the entire process, but in one area, the paint actually rubbed off, I heard the paint is very soft in the engine bay and I was wondering stuff like this will the dealership cover? Let me know! Thanks!

I had the same thing happen with one of the orange citrus cleaners. It is VERY soft paint under the bonnet, and not clearcoated. All I did at the time was wash off the citrus cleaner gently, and once dried i sprayed on some hi-temp clearcoat paint (Duplicolor rattle can) on the areas that had been affected .

As far as it being covered, it totally depends on the dealer!

Ken

Solvents and paintwork don't mix....

My next question is this...

If you damamged it then why should the dealer cover it? It was your fault.

It seems to me that a solvent meant to dissolve dirt should not be able to dissolve paint.

Citrus is one of the most potent natural solvent (acids) around! It did what it was supposed to do. Just be thankful you used it under the bonnet!

Solvents like WD-40 and citrus do not "dissolve dirt."

Please let us not nit pick over semantics!

Let's just say I have a very healthy respect for those citrus cleaners now.
