Replacement battery options for MC
#151
Hello,
I joined just so I can contribute to this thread since I found it via Google and it helped me out today.
My 2005 Cooper OEM batter went belly-up (maybe I should say belly-out as it was all bulged out - totally gone).
I was originally going for an Optima red top but they don't make one that fits our plain vanilla Coopers.
Anyway, I can confirm that for me and my '05, the Batteries Plus Rayovac RayMax battery (SLI47H5M 12V 47 RAY MAX 3/65 647MF, L2/47-E108) was a direct, no-modification, drop-in replacement. It even had the vent hole in the exact right spot. I set the two batteries side by side and they were identical in all measurements, the only difference being the color (black vs white for OEM) and the nifty handle which made dropping it in a piece of cake.
Purchased on 4-1-2012. No, this is not an April Fools joke. I think the joke was on me for having to buy a new battery.
Hopefully this helps others out like it did me.

None of the battery fit nightmares that I've been expecting from all the threads I've been reading over the past few years

Great thread! For readers in Canada, I used the suggestions/measurements/pictures here and checked out the batteries available at local Costco, Wallmart, NAPA, PartsSource etc (no Batteries Plus or Autozone up here). Found that the Motomaster Eliminator (Product #10-4785-4, 650CCA/780CA, Group 47/L2/H5, $119.99) from Canadian Tire had the right dimensions and shape so picked one up for my daughter's 2006 Cooper (she'd left the trunk partially open overnight, had to get a jump in the morning, and then found that it was still barely starting a week later). It dropped right in, perfect fit, vent hole in the right place, bracket fit fine. Looks like this battery is readily available here north of the 49th!

I have a 2008 Pepper White Mini Cooper S that had a battery just die.
I purchased an Duralast Gold H6-DLG from AutoZone and it fits perfectly.
The H5-DLG is what comes up as the replacement, but it has fewer Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) than the original (520 CCA).
The H6-DLG is the same width and height, but a little longer. It also has 730 CCA, is $10 CHEAPER and supposedly 5 pounds lighter!

my 2006 MC is getting a new battery today~! (the OEM lasted 7 yrs) Going for the Duralast Gold H5-DLG @ Autozone... so the next question IS: Are the windows and sunroof the only things that need to be reinitialized after dropping in the new battery. Anyone wanna explain how that works?
Thanks~!
Thanks~!

In addition to windows and sunroof re-initialization, with mine, the clock at the headliner needs to be reset,
the trip odometer milage goes to zero, and the dash brightness goes to full after a battery disconnect.
"After you reconnect the battery you’ll have to re-initialize the windows (and sunroof if you have it).
To initialize the windows raise the window and hold the window switch in the raised position for 5 or 6 seconds.
To initialize the sunroof close the sunroof with the switch. Then hold the switch in the tilt (raised - not open) position for about 15 seconds. When the roof moves from tilt to closed initialization is completed."

woohoo~! Just installed my new Duralast Gold Battery (H5-DLG)... Perfect fit. Getting the old OEM battery out was a PAIN.. but I finally did. The new battery fixed two problems I was having: 1) wouldnt start on first try... FIXED. 2) clock kept going back to --:--.. FIXED.
The OEM battery lasted 7 yrs..
re-initializing the windows and sunroof was NO PROBLEM... just as Cristo had described and as explained in the Shop Manual.
skaboo~! (I'm one happy girl)

Here's my wife's 2003 R50, with a replacement MINI brand battery (dated from 2006) that was in the car when we bought it a couple of years ago:
And here's the DieHard Gold Group 47 battery that I just put in my 2002 R50 in October:
As you can see, they are practically the same battery, just a different case color. Had to get another hold down strap for my car from MINI (mine was missing) but it's a perfect fit. Item number on the DieHard was 22833147.

I just replaced my original battery in my '06 Mini, 121K mi. I got the Autozone Duralast Gold H5-DLG as mentioned at the beginning of this thread and it fit just fine. I'm glad I checked this forum- I didn't know about initializing the sun roof and windows

Today, on my 2006 MC's 8th birthday, the original battery was replaced with an Advanced Auto Parts Autocraft Gold battery.
The new battery was not identical in shape with the old one, but the vent hole was in the same position.
To secure it in the battery box, I had to wedge a 1/4" shim in the front and a 1/2" shim on one side.
And the bracket was not flush with the top of the battery--it left a 1/4" space. But I screwed in the bracket anyway and reattached the batterybox cover with no problem.

Battery for 2006 MC
[start QUOTE, truncated]
According to various threads on NAM...
These batteries are said to fit the MC...
47H5 Gold - from Advance Auto Parts
Anyone want to add to, confirm or refute the above so I can keep this list accurate and more complete? [end QUOTE]
I can confirm that the "47H5 Gold from Advance Auto Parts" fit my 2006 MC (non-S, non-convertable) perfectly. Pretty much an exact fit, including vent tube.

Thank goodness for this thread. Battery died on my 2005 MC Convertible. I can confirm that Autozone's Duralast H5-DLG fits perfectly including vent hose and secure bar.
To anyone who experiences engine knock off when changing gears to reverse or drive, then gets an EP message, don't panic. Check your battery first. After replacing battery with a new one, EP message was gone but the Service Engine Soon light stayed on. I took it for a quick drive around the block, used auto and manual gears and when I got home, turned it off. Restarted it and the SES light went away.
Hope that helps and again, thanks to all.

Dealer battery almost the same cost
New update: 12/19/2014
Yes, it appears the Autozone Battery is still available but it was $166.99. I called the Seattle MINI dealer and the battery was $188.
Crazy expensive since I am used to buying batteries from Costco but needless to say that the dealer battery is a perfect fit.
What I did notice was my old MINI battery that was replaced under the warranty probably in 2006 had a CCA of 480 and the new one is 450.
The new dealer battery has a handle which made it very convenient.
I was a little bummed to see that it is BMW group and no MINI emblems or stickers at all, but I know that I am ridiculous. It is black and not white.

Upon further research it appears that going to Batteries Plus may have been a better option. They show a picture of the battery that is said to be an exact replacement. It would have been about $109, but even better is they show they have an AGM battery for $159.
I did notice that when I clicked on the link to check the stock at my store the price was a little higher. $145.99/$182.99
Both are branded Duracell and appear to be made in the USA

I think my battery is ready to be replaced - still on the OEM/original battery (2005 Mini Cooper). We've had quite a few sub-zero days, and yesterday it was -17, and it cranked over, caught. I did the unthinkable and pressed on the full-heat setting, and the car stopped, couldn't restart it (it cranked over very slowly). This morning, a warm 20 degrees, it started right up.
Twice (once this winter, once last) I left the lights on. I have a *very* specific routine, and in both cases, was distracted when leaving my car and didn't turn the lights off. Both times, a jump got me back up and running. Neither time did I charge the battery with a slow charger, but should have.
I'm on my way to pick up a Bosch Premium Performance Battery, H5-650B which has a different part # than the H5-600B listed as not fitting. I'll post here if it is an exact fit or not. If not, Batteries plus has a Duracell which is said to fit... but PepBoys have a 30% off sale going on right now which makes this hard to pass up.
Followup:
Battery appeared to be the same dimensions as my OEM battery, so I got it. Headed back to install. This battery didn't look the same as the one they have out on the rack (H5-600B), but both are the same battery group (47).
And...:
The battery fit. It came with a universal vent, and I had to reconfigure it for the opposite side. It may have been a hair taller - the bracket on the passengers side seemed shorter than it should have been, but in the end I got it to fit.

can anyone tell me if anyone has had experience with the following battery:
Super Start Platinum - Battery
this is what my local auto parts store has as the mini cooper replacement battery. Will it fit, or will there bit issues with the restraining strap, etc?
:(
My battery won't hold a charge at all and I've got to get this fixed ASAP.
