RPM - Normal Driving Style - Question

I know this has been posted before, but I don't know those people that replied, so I ask my local buds...........

During normal driving, moderate traffic, when is your normal shifting points (RPM's). I normally shift at about 4000 RPM's and know that I have a lot of room to push it.

I also don't roll about in slower traffic below 2500 RPM's.

What say you all?

I usually shift at about 3000 rpm in traffic. I usually stay at 2000 rpm or above. Car has enough torque at 2000 to not be a problem.

Not that it answers your question Rex but my observation is that the R53 and R56 have seperate power curves. Different engines so makes sense. So R56 owners answers here don't apply to you

As and example I recall Doug Travis telling me that he'd stick to 2nd gear for driving the Dragon in his R53. In a R56 I was screaming out at 4-5K RPM in second

Maybe you were just going faster, Tim.

I've got an R52 MC with a 5 speed and I find I typically shift between 3k and 4k. If I want to get going quicker I might hit 5k in first and second and if I do that in third I'm going about 70 and can skip right to 5th.

I have a modded R53. For normal driving, I keep the engine between 2-3k. For spirited driving and rallies, I will run around 4k.

At the track, I never let it dip below 4k. Under acceleration, I'll usually shift at about 6500, even though I have the redline bumped up to 7200. The only time I'll run all the way up to 7200 is if I'm at the end of a straight and don't have time to shift.

Let Er Eat

Leave it in any gear, and as long as there aren't any cops around, let er eat.
And don't forget to swerve.
