Some of us in the MetroplexMini group are finalizing the details for this event and want to make sure the word gets out. Post if you are seriously interested, so we can ensure hotel and meal preps.
Dates: April 29-May 1
Location: Hot Springs, Ark.
Lodging: Arlington Hotel.Room rates $84 for singles and $94 for doubles. Private indoor parking for cars available at $9/night.
Meals: We'll plan group meals for Friday and Saturday night, Saturday lunch on the road and Sunday noon, but they will be optional and you will order and pay as you go.
Schedule:
Arrive on Friday. Many will take all or part of Friday off to get there early, but you can come after work if you want. Mapquest says almost 5 hours driving time, but many here will do better!
On Saturday, we will take a great drive through the mountains. Based on your feedback, I have shortened the orignal route somewhat, resulting in a 5-hour drive that will encompass two great mountains (Magazine and Nebo), parts of Scenic Byway Route 7 and lots of twisties. After the drive, enjoy downtown Hot Springs shopping and spas. There is a lot to do in Hot Springs! We'll have a group dinner (details to come).
On Sunday, we will head west to Mena for a lunch at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge, and drive the Talimena Scenic Drive, which promises to be a blast! From there we will head through rural Oklahoma back to Dallas.
Who is involved/invited: Anyone! You don't have to have a MINI (altho the drives won't be as fun without one!). In fact, I know a number of Audi TT people are interested. So it's just for anyone who enjoys driving and good company.
What you need to do:
If you are interested in this event, please post below. I need to let the hotel know how many rooms to set aside. Once I post that procedure, you will be responsible for making your own hotel reservations. I don't anticipate that there will be any registration fee for this event, thus you're own your own for paying for meals, etc., but can also choose to join the group as you want. If you have any suggestions or would like to help with arrangements, your input is welcomed!
Just a reminder that the hotel registration deadline at the special rate is on March 29! Let me know if you plan to go so I'll send you specific information.
