September 6th is Labor Day, anybody up for one of my world famous UBC Challenges?
UBC Challenge - The Unclaimed Baggage Center (UBC) in Scottsboro, AL is a huge store that sells items lost on airlines, freight, and other shipping transports. Anything and everything shows up there, and it's all priced at around 1/2 the retail price or less. I bought a Leica camera there a couple months ago for $110, CD's are $3.50, etc.... I got a real nice Burris rifle scope there 2 years ago for $9 - probably sold for over $200.
What is the Challenge? Whoever finds the weirdest, strangest, most oddball item (no purchase necassary) wins the adoration of his companions. On the first UBC Challenge Sam J. found a Spam snowglobe and I found a 1 gallon bag of Nacho Cheese Douche. Since then winning entries have been a reuseable mustache made of real hair and a matching set of Snapple toothbrush and soap holders.
Scottsboro is located in northern AL, an easy drive from Nashville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Huntsville, etc.... lots of great roads in the area as well.
Lodging, though available, is sometimes hard to find without driving into a larger city so it's reccomended that this be a daytrip, though many interesting places are nearby if one wants to make a weekend of it. Nashville, the Huntsville Air and Space Museum, Chattanooga, the Barbour Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, etc....
If anyone is up for it, or just wants more info, come on over to the MINICC website where we are trying to get an informal UBC Challenge going. The message thread is in the Alabama section of the message forums. A link will be provided below.
The UBC is being rescheduled, pushed forward actually...
the management at work has decided that I will definitely have to work on labor day, or maybe not... they haven't decided, but I definitely can't have the day off. I might work 8 hours that day, maybe just 2, or possibly not at all... they don't know and won't know until the DAY BEFORE....
So, since nobody so far has spoken up that they were joining I hereby decree that the UBC Challenge will instead take place September 4th, Saturday, instead of Monday the 6th.
Anybody want to join in that can now do it? Please speak up...
