sorry not that there is no interest i responded to this and got side tracked about 50 times.
We currently have not done any HPDEs or anything of the like we are looking into doing some, but we have not finanlized anything as far as when where or how. Sorry that I didnt respond sooner
Thanks for getting back in touch with me ... I will likely be looking into the local SCCA chapter for autox events.
If you'd be interested in organizing a private/semi-private AutoX event or an HPDE for some of your customers, I would be more than happy to share whatever information I put together. Feel free to PM if this is something you'd be interested in doing.
Hey Jamie - keep posting on here. I just moved to SoCal, bought a mini from South Bay Mini (09 JCW) and I'm always interested in stuff like this. Perhaps lessons first might be in order though =D.
Actually driving in Autocross or Track Day events is SUPER easy in the Mini. It's almost stupid how quickly you can learn how to drive this car scary fast.
However, actually getting to the events and learning what is going on can be a real bear. The first autocross event for most people is a little confusing and clubs rarely do a good job of introducing "newbies" to the sport. Track days are a little better organized in terms of getting new drivers on the track, but they are often expensive and intimidating for people new to the sport.
If we can get a group of people who are interested in taking their mini coopers out for events like this, I would be more than happy to help organize/get this off the ground. I am by no means a professional instructor, but I do know quite a bit about autocross and how to get out to track days -- AND I'm willing to share.
It sounds like Southbay mini might be interested in promoting this kind of activity. (right?)...
So, lets keep this discussion up ... I already know of a couple of people in Redondo who drive minis at events in the southern California area. If you're interested in this kind of thing, post here. I'll try to meet/discuss with Amanda sometime and, if we can get enough people, maybe have a quick meeting to see what kind of momentum we can get going.
Like dr_phatcity said the events are a lot of fun! I have done a track day and done some cone courses in a MINI while we havent as a dealership done any events yet we have looked into doing them in the past and are interested to do something pending we can get it put together.
If you want to come in and talk and kind of put together a list of what it takes we can set up a time and look into it. Just give me a call and we will set up a time or PM me with your information and I will set some time aside to meet and then I will take it to our GSM and get stuff rolling on my end.
Thanks for the ideas we are always willing to hear what customers would like to see us do on the dealership end! Any ideas you guys have in the future let us know as we are always willing to listen.
I recently moved back to the southbay and I'm headed to an autocross on Sunday. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to help introduce people to the sport. The event will be at el toro ca and likely start before 8:00.
Pm before Friday to make arrangements. I'm currently without my mini, so no idea what I'll be driving ...
