Anyone running in SMF?

Did you notice that PAX is now almost the same for DSP and SMF?

What is the widest wheel and tire that will fit an R53 with lowered suspension?

15x9" 6UL with 275/35-15 tire?

or
15x8" wheel with 245/40-15 tire? I'm sure that fits.

Good on you for trying SMF, that's pretty brave.

Up here in the flinty north-east, the Kuehl's run "Smurf" which is a fearsome SMF beastie with 360 hp to the wheels in a flyweight CRX chassis. Once Don and Brian figured out how not to shear the Honda axles when the boost hit that became a top contender. That car weighs about 2,000 pounds soaking wet.

I will be running in SMF again this year in both region here in Oklahoma.


Just ordered new Koni performance sport shocks, Hotchkis upper & lower rear control arms, H & R lowering springs and Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates. I've received all but the camber plates.


I'll be running 225/45 16 Toyo R888's, so I'm not sure if I will be able to lower the mini or not. Has anyone run the 225/45 16 on a lowered mini?

 

Yep - on my STX Mini. 8" rims out front, and 7" rims behind. Worked very nicely. Obviously the R1R is not comparable to the R888 however so caveat emptor. That car was down 1.5" on a H&R coil-over setup with lower control arms out back to control the camber.

Was yours a R53? Mine is a R53 04' and not sure if the tire clearances are the same with the R56's.

With spacers and work you can run 15x10s up front and 15x8s in the rear. I run 275/35/15s front and 225/40/15s in the rear. I was able to get within 2 seconds of a national level car/driver this last weekend.

Yes MINIHUNE I am back at it, racing with Equipe Rapide here in Miami after a many month absence.
Squeezed some 235 45 15s Hankooks onto my 15 x 7 rims, just barely cleared the spring perch adjusters on the coil overs with 5mm spacers. Picked up some 15mm spaces and longer bolts, but I didn't have a thin wall socket to fit them, so maybe next time.

As usual, had a blast, ended up 12th or so overall (lower in PAX) and still 2 seconds behind the swapped Civic. Fastest car daily driver in my class at least.

Thanks for the video, good job. You have a wide open course with generous spacing in slaloms and in turns even if they might "look tight".

As a result you can do better if you tighten up your driving line and turn in earlier on each slalom cone (called backsiding cones in Evolution driving school) and in each turn.

When backsiding cones you leave yourself more time/distance before reaching the next cone which means you can carry much more speed no matter what tires you are on. You can also consider driving the shortest possible line and see how that works for you.

Note that as you make these changes to your driving line you need to stay on course and be precise with your driving line to keep speed up. Higher speeds mean less time to adjust for cones that come up very fast.

idk that nationally it's a good platform compared to EGs & EFs that can throw in K24s & weigh hundreds less with more tire & better suspension..

I'm running STX with my almost stock jcw, and SMF with my track car

 

I'm running in novice smf, mostly because I have to due to my pulley upgrade I did before I started doing autocross. tough to keep up with the other guys with pax

 

I'm running My 2006 JCW which is all stock in DS in the NEOKLA region in Tulsa, Ok and running My track car a 2004 MCS in OKCSCCA region in Okla City, Ok.

 

I think I'm switching to SMF next year so I can run 275 hoosiers, anyone prep for SMF lately? I'm not sure what all we can remove, ie headliner, carpet, door cards

pretty sure everything behind the seats is fair game, not sure about the rest, I wanna remove headliner for roll bar fitment

 

Ive started this year my first year novice. But have a motorcycle racing background so it's helped. I already had a bigger turbo and a tune so I have to be in SMF. I've placed 1st in my novice group every time and run top 3 in the SMF group. Having a blast and my son rides with me too.
