Excuse me, but what merit does the "Show us where you live" thread have that makes it any more sticky-worthy than about 20 other popular Off-Topic threads?
With the exception of information-only threads like the "Removal of Political Topics", we have not really had regular OT threads designated as sticky threads and I think that this new precedent deserves to be discussed here.
Worthwhile long-term threads (like "Show us where you live" ) thrive because they are popular enough to get consistent posts. Threads that are no longer interesting or relevant sink naturally downward as they are replaced with newer threads. Until now, this has been the circle of life for threads in our cherished Off-Topic forum.
Is this a precedent we really want here in Off Topic?
What are the criteria that must be met for a thread to be honored with the prestigious sticky designation?
Who decides which Off Topic threads are so important that they must made a sticky so they will always be at the top of the first page?
How many threads in this forum should be judged as sticky-worthy?
Why is my Insomnia thread not sticky-worthy?

"Accidents are unsuspected and hated, but they are part of life. When you are fitted in a racing car and you race to win, second or third place is not enough. You must take the compromise to win, or else nothing. That means: you race or you do not." - Ayrton Senna (August 1991)
Elevating said thread to sticky status was outrageous, egretious, inflamatory, combusatory, excretionary, and anti democratic treatment of the many other fine threads above which it "show us where you live" as been artificially vaulted. Such acts should be as illegal as steroids. I have already sought counsel with attorney Jacky Brown.
Thanks for your brave stand in thrusting this outrage as far up the NAM collective OT listings as possible given the sticky stature of that thread.
In fairness, there may be a rationale. One might be that the photography is really good. Barring that rationale being provided, and in hopes of avoiding litigation (Jacky is costly), I will start a petition:
We the undersigned protest the disparate treatment of one thread over others. Thereby we petition for equality of threads of similar import and cessation of extending sticky status rules (NAM policy 117B-18) beyond written policy.

Hmmmm....I did not sticky the thread in question. From my experience, advisory/warning threads are traditionally the only ones stickied in Off Topic. I kind of think the Show Us Where You Live thread should be moved to the Photog Forum.
I'm not sure who stuck that thread either. In any case I just unstuck it. The thread really has more of an Off Topic flavor to it than a camera and video forum feel, so let's leave it in Off Topic.
BTW, feel free to PM me if you have questions about this kind of thing in the future.
EDIT: I just checked the moderator log. It looks like I was the one responsible for accidentally sticking that thread and brought all of this chaos to Off Topic.

Thanks for being so forthcoming, Dave! LOL! Good idea about moving it to Site Feedback, too!

DiD,
It was your other-self alterego that did the forementioned sticky deed. You were asleep when it happened but the secret spy video cameras at your computer picked up the event and it was being monitored by the authorities and logged in.
Also, I was going to post that it wasn't me who did the sticky just in case people were wondering why I was so quiet about it. I haven't been near Off topic for weeks, or is it months?
Hard to remember in "my old age".

CB = my actual initials, so I claim full control herewith!
This reminds me of when I was a kid and my brother knocked over a vase. When my mom ran into the room he screamed, "I didn't do it!" She immediately knew perfect little me sitting watching TV was innocent. He got it but only because during interrogation he admitted he'd lied. My guess is that everyone who denied culpability was in on it. We have a NAM conspiracy!

You might not have had a conspiracy this time, but what about next time. If there are any lessons to be taken away from this episode, clearly one of them is that stickying random posts to the top of O.T. results in some degree of constronation of the O.T. natives. Now, if we were to choose at some point to not be benevolent and start playing mind games, an obvious choice would start sticking random posts.
Now there's something for you conspiracy theorists. Maybe I'm playing a mind game already. Maybe I'm using this post to be able to have plausable deniability when the next random post gets stickied. After all, I'd be foolish to do it after making the admission above, right?

Good for Yucca for bringing this up...and good for DID for fixing it. Being a mod here must be a trip because, imo, things happen so fast on NAM. Stirs up controversy on occasion, but I wouldn't want it any other way. If it's happening anywhere....it'll likely show up on NAM....and generally within minutes. Messy, anarchistic, disfunctional.....we love it!!!! (...or at least I do) In my limited experience, there's few places quite like it. Yay us!!!!

Similarly, I've been considering the complexity of the sticky affair. Applying the logic needed to figure out an Agatha Christie mystery, it is never the obvious culprit responsible. In fact, it is usually the person least expected; a periphery figure.
A a photography buff who had just posted some cool pics, Dave does present the obvious person who perpetrated this heinous crime. He was also suspicously quick with a confession. Witness too the quotation above. He is definitely capable of and up to more: a complex mind ****** still to unfold.
Likewise the Core Moderation Team would all know they would be too easily fingered (sic). So, who is least suspicous looking yet had the most to gain?
Let's approach this puzzle by posing some questions:
Who is a regional coordinator thus having knowledge which rock keys to the NAM computer nerve center are hidden?
Who other than sndwave (who Jimmy Buffett vouches was drinking with him all weekend) knew in advance when the NAM home team would all away in Vegas?
Who gained the most from this unfortunate episode?
YuccaPatrol. He's achieved instant fame among the OT crowd as a seemingly courageous whistle blower. Now it is time to blow the whistle on Mr. Patrol. Book him Dano.

That depends on what the definition of famous is. Mr Patrol has been infamous for years, known as the Blogger of Burning Ham. He's now done an image makeover and transformed into the watchdog FOR we, the little people, who frequent this site. Even though a clever pr scheme, here's to YuccaPATROL
