September 9th | San Diego BMWCCA Auto-X | Qualcomm

LOCATION: Qualcomm West Lot (San Diego)

TIMES:
  • 6:30 AM gates open
  • 7:00 AM tech opens
  • 7:00 AM registration opens with priority to BMW and MINI owners
  • 7:45 AM registration opens to non-bmws, any BMW/MINIs arriving after 7:45 are processed in order with the non-bmw's.
  • 8:20 AM tech closes
  • 8:30 AM registration closes
FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. 100 car limit (NOTE: this is up from 80)

The one day SD BMWCCA events have a history of filling up early. Plan on arriving before the 7 AM registration formally opens to get a number at the gate.

You must be a BMWCCA member ($40 and totally worth it for the Roundel magazine and the chapter newsletters)

Cost for one day is $45 per day.

CLASSING: the San Diego chapter has one MINI COOPER class, so all the MINIs are thrown into the mix against each other (supercharger or not).

List of those planning on competing
  1. Charlie - madhatter
  2. Joe - curv872
  3. Jerry - goaljnky

Done.

I'm in a similar position (penciled in). I'm going to Michigan at some point in September, but the dates haven't been nailed down yet.

Hi Dave,

Pencil me in. I should have my new Smini by then. I might even bring my son down as well. What is the age limit for competing? Does SD BMWCCA have anything against a shared ride?

Thanks!

Very cool. I put him down as tentative

I'm not sure if I heard it at an L.A. or San Diego BMWCCA event (maybe both), but I have heard 18 mentioned before as the minimum age.

No. Jerry and Teresa will be co-driving their MCS that day as well. They will probably want to put you in different run groups though so you both aren't trying to run in the car at the same time.

You will both still need to be BMWCCA members ($40 each, become a BMWCCA member before the day of the event) and you'll both need to pay the entry fee ($45 each).

WOW! With that many MINIs running, we might need to get some West Coast MINI folks to stop by and support our buddies!

Looks like its going to be a great turnout. Now, if only I had the money for a set of Rewind's with some sticky rubber! (Placed 3rd in July with my OEM runflats)

Joe: I just marked you down as attending. let me know if that's not the case.

I love my rewinds. They aren't bad at 15x7 and 14.6 lbs either (not super light, but pretty acceptable given that the 15x5 holies are 12 lbs).

Dave,

Are you running 225's(which tires)? Goodwin Racing has a great deal on the Konig's, I'm just a little strapped for cash right now. Camber plates are also on my wish list. Which ones do you have?

I'm running 205/50 R15 currently. I have also used 205/55 R15 (closer to stock diameter). 205 seems to me to be about the limit of 7" wide wheels without getting the tread bulging over the sides.

If you get the rewinds, keep in mind you also need hubcentric rings. I got mine by calling discount tire direct and telling them I needed a set of metal hubcentric rings for 15" konig wheels for MINI fitment. The rings ran about $15 as I recall.

Oh, sorry, my bad... I forgot this wasn't an L.A. event.

Reshuffled based loosely on the finish order at the July 8th event.

Sorry, I missed replying to this. That would be very cool.

The MINIs will probably be randomly put into the run groups, so there should be MINIs driving the course throughout the day. First cars out on course should be around 9 AM and the driving continues until about 5 PM.

We set up a MINI pit area and hang out together. When you come to Qualcomm, you'll proceed to the West Lot, sign the BMWCCA waiver (no entry fee), and find parking that isn't someone's pit area.

BMWCCA does provide lunch for participants included in their entry fee, but spectators can buy lunch from BMWCCA if they like for $5 (as I recall).

Hope to see you there.

Dave

I hope next time SD is more 'curvy'...

That way would be more interesting to beat you!

(And more rewarding cause you really handle that damn MC well!!)

I'm sure regardless of whatever they do with the course, it will be competitive. I'm glad to see the collective experience level going up with people getting out to multiple events. It makes the class a lot of fun.

The friendly rivalries are good too.

There are some WCM people who enjoy watching, so I'm sure at least a few will show up. I'll remind them all as it gets closer. Several of us went in March to watch my brother (miniwildcat) kill some cones. We love to cheer on the MINIs, laugh at the Corvettes (just because they are SO not made for auto-x), and be stunned by cars who look like they were rescued from the junkyard the day before.

That is a lot of bragging for someone who finished second once and got beat by Dave twice!
