EIM Penultimate '08 IA-MN Border Skirmish Drive - Nov 1st
Announcing the Eastern Iowa MINIs Penultimate '08 IA-MN Border Skirmish Drive, to be held on Saturday, November 1st!
Yes, we all know that the bronze hog known as Floyd of Rosedale will not be contested until deep into the month of November; however, it's never too early to make a few quick, strategic strikes across the border. So, recognizing that the EIM Iowa City Roundup on Oct 25 might leave some appetites sufficiently whetted for some quality motoring, plus the fact that several EIM'ers have expresssed an interest in an end-of-year motoring event up here in the northeast Iowa Alps before the need to shift to snow tires; thus this Penultimate '08 IA-MN Border Skirmish Drive was hatched.
See the attached flyer for the detailed route map (including coordinates for all of you GPS wonks). The drive starts at 9:30 am at the Decorah Trout Hatchery and winds its way to lunch at 11:30 am at Doc's Blue Moose restaurant in Spring Grove, MN. From there we check out the twisties of the Root River valley and finish at 2:30 pm at the Mineart residence in Decorah for dessert, relaxation, conversation, college football on TV, etc.
Please post a reply or send me a PM or email if you plan on joining us so we can get an accurate count. Should be a fun time!

What a great ride! I was too busy white knuckling my steering wheel to notice my speed. I am sure it was close to the posted speed It was a blast! Here are some photos. I wish we had some photos of the really twisty part but Tom needed both hands on the grab bars.

Great pics Linda and Tom! I culled mine and pulled out a select few that weren't too duplicative...like you all, I was too busy holding on to get any good motoring shots.

I had a great time today! The weather couldn't have been nicer, and it was a real treat to cover so much ground on great roads and essentially not have to deal with any traffic slowing us up.
Thanks to everyone who motored with us today!

Wow! What an event! On the way home I tried to think of appropriate descriptors for the drive, but they all sound pretty lame when compared to the real thing. Who knew all that excitement was just up the road a ways? About 5 minutes after leaving the fish hatchery the excitement started, and let up only long enough to have a fabulous lunch. Lots of surprises, beautiful scenery, excellent roads, and stellar company! I think we’re in agreement that this needs to be an annual EIM event. Thanks, Gary.
.
I wasn’t able to capture any of those spectacular roads, so I hope someone else got something.

Most of your pics are now up and available for viewing in the Gallery on the EIM Website!
HeyHey You figured out the gallery The new hosting makes it work like it should instead of the issues we had initially
Sounds like we missed out on some good motoring, when things settle down here hopefully I can get back into the swing of things.
