Search in the Interior/Exterior Modifications sub-forum. I recall someone doing a color change with leatherette, but the same could be done with suede. I also recall something about a suede shift boot.
Many members (including myself) use NAM to research information - most of the posts you've created raise interesting and valid points - however, I would ask you to take some time to read your post for clarity before posting and make sure your CAPS lock is off - you'll find that you'll get more replies to your posts if you do that.
While I was working at MINI of Pittsburgh, there were a few cars that had been sold with custom suede/leather (combination) upholstery. Sorry, I don't think I have any pics.
I doubt you would get it done cheaper. By the time the seats are removed, stripped, the heater coils replaced, the new covering made and fitted and the seats replaced I'd guess it would be more than the cost of lounge leather.
Katzkin (sp?) has suede and all sorts of other things available for the mini in a lot of different colours. If my seats are ever damaged that will be the route I'll go (though probably pin hole rather than suede)
Crying? Hardly. Listen, you're NOT going to be well recieved, or make any friends on this group with your highly apparent attitude. I read that other string you started, which the moderators thankfully closed. IF you want responses to your questions, drop your "STAND" and act like an adult. Thanks for your consideration in this matter.

This is a great place for information and to meet nice people with common interests (virtually at least). However, if you want to make friends then you really need to play by the rules. Typing in all caps is considered YELLING in this little virtual community of ours. You're breaking one of the few rules of netiquette. We welcome you but if you insist on your stand then you want find much luck on getting people's help here. Not mean, just the facts.

WHO CARES REALLY
I do. Its bad net etiquette, hard to read, and rude...especially after members have requested that you stop. On top of that one of our moderators and myself have sent you separate private messages requesting that you stop the use of all caps. No other member on the site uses this type of posting style and we have more than 40,000 members. I'm sure that dropping all caps people would respond to your posts better and it will take an additional .1 seconds to use the shift key when you need a capital letter.
If you can't abide by this simple request then you posts will be moderated or removed.
If you want a good laugh (and even more of his all-caps typing), you can check out his MySpace page. His username there is the same as his username here.

another option instead of recovering everything with material like alcantara or ultrasuede is flocking. basically, you spread on a glue and then use what looks like an old bug sprayer to blow a suedelike material on. Anybody who's got the glovebox organizers....this is a flocked finish.
I recall seeing an entire custom pickup with it's exterior done with that stuff, back in the 70's. It'll get you a look, that's for sure. But it won't hold up. Same on the interior. It gathers dirt, grease, finger oils, you name it, and very soon it looks horrible. And THEN what do you do? I'd pass.
Besides that...think mini performance driving and wind resistance.

many moons ago, we'd do custom dashboards....to conceal large horn loaded compression drivers (HCLD's). The lower dash would be perforated and the horn behind....flocking it was a nice attractive way to finish the install. as for longevity, that's hard to say, but I don't make a habit out of rubbing my dashboard
