lugging

I think that lugging can be defined as running the engine at a high enough load at low engine revs that you feel a significant vibration throughout the vehicle. This noise and/or vibration is caused by the engine torque being transmitted (resonating) to the vehicle structure through the motor mounts. What is acceptable is pretty subjective. If it feels bad or annoying adjust your max load at low revs limit.

My old Engineering director called lugging "the sound of good fuel economy".
