SMF (Street Modified FWD) 275/35/15 Hoosier A6
#1
275/35/15 Hoosier A6
Ask and ye shall receive...
From Jeff Speer of HRT (Hoosier)
Emilio,
The new size which has been approved for production, is the
P275/35ZR-15. The diameter will be 22.9" with a tread width of 10.3".
On
a 9.5" wide rim, the total width should be 11.25".Initally this size
will only be offered in the autocross A6, until I see a demand for this
size in club racing which uses the R6 compound. I am hoping to have
this
size ready by late Feb. or early March.
The ideal rim width would be a 9.0" or a 10.0" wide rim. I am sure if
the competitor has class rule restrictions, a 8.0" could be used as
well.
Hope this helps and you are able to market a good quality race wheel,
15x9 or 15x10.
Have a nice Christmas next week.
- Jeff Speer, HRT
That would be 15x9.5

That tire size seems too wide to fit a MINI with the +36mm offset.
275/35 on a MINI, wow that might be scary at first glance.
Tonight, I was following a Black Mustang Mach 1 with super wide rear tires.
They were huge. It was a Police car.nod:

[quote=minihune;1282678]Using the 949racing 15x8" rim with +36mm offset on a MINI can the 275/35-15 A6 Hoosier fit without spacers or rubbing???
[quote]
I'd guess no way. We will need a wheel that sticks out quite a bit. I'm wondering if trimming the fenders will be required. I'm really hoping the wheels will be short enough to allow for sticking out without rubbing given proper ride height.
Oh, also, I'm guessing, these tires won't work for the rear, the car would never rotate with that much rubber back there. I'll be testing with the 225/45/15 as well as the 205/50/15 extensively. We might actually have to put a slight bit more camber back into the rear with such huge front tires though!!! Either that or soften the rear slightly to allow for a balanced front/rear.

Tirerack is listing Hoosier A6 in 275/35-15 for $237 each available 8/15/07
Fits rims 9-11" wide, perfect fit for rims 9.5" wide, 20 lbs same as 225/45-15, tire diameter 23", section width is 1" wider than 225/45-15.
So who has 15x9.5" rims? How much do they weigh? At the small tire diameter you can run then sticking wide outside the fenders- just don't hit anything like a curb or barrier.
Ask 949racing.

Look at the pictures with attention to the wheel arch plastic- it's been trimmed both front and rear.
Check this out-
http://mysite.verizon.net/azacharda/corner.jpg
The problem with wheel arch and fender flares or wider fender mods is when you change back to any stock sized wheel your wheels won't fit the MINI and it will make the wheel look too small.
I'd like to see how this MINI looks with standard sized wheels, probably OK especially with 225/45-17 tires or at least 215/45-17.
Even my 15x8 rims and 225/45-15 tires gets a bit wide and sticks out on my MCS but this setup adds another inch or more facing outwards.
The BMW competition is probably shaking their heads.

So is anyone going to try this out?
Update-
http://www.949racing.com/index.asp?P...ATS&Category=2
In March 2008
15x9 in silver or black for about $170 each plus shipping with +36mm offset.
Stock wheels are about 5.6" backside setting so likely 15mm spacer is needed in the rear to make 15x9 wheel fit.
273/35-15 Hooiser A6 is same weight as 225/45-15 at 20 lbs but 1.1" tread width wider. 15x9 rim weighs more than 15x8 rim plus the weight of the spacers.

15x7.5 +34 offset, 5.25" backside setting
15x8 +36 offset, 5.875" backside setting
15x9 +36 offset, 6.25" backside setting - requires cutting fenders, flares and/or spacers on most cars.Stock wheels are about 5.6" backside setting so likely 15mm spacer is needed in the rear to make 15x9 wheel fit.

I guess I still have the same questions. Which of those wheel widths is the minimum required to make use of the wider tire? I'm ok with spacers, but do any of the wheel/tire combos go on without body modification? If the answer is yes, I would be sorely tempted to sell my Kosei K-1's and go for the bigger combo.

15x9 will work. Spacers needed to clear rear lower trailing arm definitely.
Wheel will then be far outside but if tire diameter is only 23" then if you are not too lowered you should clear the wheel arch in the rear.
Not so clear in the fronts where the tire can scrape on the inside wheel well when turning in and also against the mid shock body. I'd guess some trimming would be required. One idea is in the front to use a 10mm spacer and that might work since 15x8 with +40 offset will fit.

Interesting. Turns out that The crappy camber plates I'm using lift the front about a cm, maybe a touch more. I've also wondered if just removing the black trim would do the trick. It would be ugly, but my driving is ugly anyway.
BTW. 11k posts? Holy moly!
