How about a California North Coast Lighthouse Run?
This could include visits to the following lighthouses:
Cresent City/Battery Point, St. George Reef (near Cresent City), Trinidad Head, Humbolt Bay, Cape Mendicino (Shelter Cove)Punta Gorda (Lost Coast), Point Cabrillo (Mendocino/Ft. Bragg), Point Arena, Point Reyes. Fort Point (Point Pinos), Point Bonita, Pigeon Point, Pt. Sur, Point Montara. with maybe a non-mini visit to Alcatraz Island lighthouse.
Great views, great roads, neat places to stay.
Options: We could include the entire coast from San Diego to Victoria Island in BC.
Just a though. If anyone is interested I can start mapping it out.

I think this would make a wonderful early October run, while the fall weather is still beautiful on the coast, prior to the rain and far enough after the second half of the 2006 MINI Mountain Tour in September.

Although many of the lighthouses are open year round, there are some on the list that are open April/May thru Sept. That does not mean we could not visit them, but some have museums and visitor centers that would be closed.
I will do some further investigation.

When the thermometer starts to climb into the three digits and you can't seem to COOL down........just click on this photo link to Rob Hoopi's photos of the Point Arena Lighthouse. Great photos and it's seems to make you feel better...
Here's the link for Pt. Arena: You can click on slide show and sit back.
Besides this is a teaser for the REME Lighthouse run........think clear blue skies, with just a hint of fog off on the horizon, glistening morning dew clinging to the grass and flowers, a light breeze, temperatures of 62F, looking out over the blue Pacific Ocean, the sound of surf pounding on the rocks, and the chirping of the seagulls as they glide effortlessly overhead...............
Now go and sign up for the run....................... REME events calendar

We will be starting our run Saturday morning, April 7 in beautiful Crescent City at 9 am. Because of the number of stops we will be making, everyone will be on their own as far as how much time they want to spend at each lighthouse. Because the weekend is full of lighthouse tours, it is strongly advised to bring picnic lunches to eat at the lighthouse of your choice to save some time. The attached map does allow for a 15-45 minute stop at each lighthouse plus additional time for lunch breaks.
04/06/07 Pre-run dinner at 7 PM in Crescent City, location to be determined
both the spring and fall is beautiful on the northern CA coast... but not both. We have many other multi-day runs planned for the remainder of the year. Please refer to the REME calendar or REME MegaBBS forum.
Next year we will likely do a similar lighthouse run from SF Bay south.

While I was at AMVIV4, I did speak with members of other clubs that expressed interest in joining in on our Lighthouse Tour. We will need to get a head count. If you are a member of REME please sign up on our MegaBBS forum, if not, you can join REME at no charge and sign up, or email me at norm@redwoodempiremini.com and let us know you are coming.
Thanks,

Here is a link to Robyn Saunder's (Miniology.com) video of the Lighthouse Tour. Rob was able to capture the spectacular views and the beautiful scenery from the weekend. Great weather and great friends.
Maybe we will do this again. Next year we can do the Southern California Coast Lighthouse Tour.
