rear fog light on the Countryman

So based on a little research, the Euro Countryman uses the left rear reverse light as a foglight, based on this video

There is also a corresponding rear foglight switch

Real OEM has the part number as 61319804923

Considering the wiring is already there, could it be as simple as changing out the switch, changing the bulb to red and doing a little coding?

Anyone figure this out yet?

I know there is a thread in the "Electrical" sub-forum on this very topic. I will have to see if I can dig it up. If I remember right, it is not as simple as "plug-n-play"!

One of the features i miss from the hatchback. Blind those who tailgate me or use their high beams without knowing they are on.

In Europe, it isn't always the left side that displays the rear fog light. By convention, the illuminated fog light is always on the side of the car closest to the centerline. Thus, in RHD vehicles the fog light is on the RIGHT side.

There is much more to this than meets the eye. Along with the switch panel, you may want the European LHD rear tail lights (L:#63219808149 R:#63219808150 - check Euro LHD model in realoem.com) and you will need to make some wiring changes to disconnect the backup light on the left side. There should be some snipped-off wiring near the left rear light that carries the current from the rear fog light switch.

Of course, you don't necessarily NEED to replace the lenses. Once you have disconnected the left backup light circuit and connected the fog light switch's wiring to it, you could replace the old backup bulb with a hi-intensity red LED.

Finally, you will have to use NCS Expert to code the rear fog light option into the VO string. There may also be other settings in the FRM module that need to be modified too. This is not for the faint-hearted; you can actually brick your MINI if you're not careful!!!

Your MINI dealer will be of no help as MINIUSA has specifically forbidden them from converting/activating rear fog lights in the US.

HTH,

^^ Come on, I just finished retrofitting a CIC and Combox along with coding in my X5, along with a whole bunch of other changes. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ed-my-e70.html

Changing values in the FRM3 will not result in you bricking anything. You aren't flashing any software to the FRM3 (I do have that capability since I recently purchased an icom).

I almost have BMW live and Internet working in the mini too

There is no FRM3 module in the R60, only an FRM. And, my warning was generic in nature regarding the use of NCS Expert in inexperienced hands to modify R60 settings in general (I assume that is what was meant as "flashing"). As you are well aware, a careful NCS Expert will learn how to default the modules BEFORE they make any settings changes with their MAN files. Of course, careful, seasoned folks who archive all their NETTODAT and TRC files *should* have nothing to worry about.

It is my nature to be cautious about such things; folks HAVE bricked their MINIs with NCS Expert when they weren't organized or didn't know how to default the modules. I would much rather warn the uninitiated than have them proceed carelessly. But that's just me!

Congrats on the mods to your X5!

^^ Based on the trace, it is indeed an FRM3. One of the first things that I did when we got the car last year was remove the country specific code in the FA and then turn on the city lights for the DRL. For example, it really is a matter of semantics to say there is no CIC module, there is a champ module, when it really is a CIC mid (based on the trace again).

I understand the need to advise people to be careful, but simply using the expert profile and SG Coderein will default a module based on the FA (alternate and less preferred is to use a blank.man file in your profile which allows manipulation).

Oh, I did the rear fog light activation on my X5 too

I had to get the Euro switch, and run one extra wire to the FRM

I suspect our dialogue has deterred the folks I was trying to warn!

On another note, did you remove the country code in order to effect the city lights as DRLs? I didn't have to do that:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...4-post755.html

Not to hijack (yeah, right!) but my favorite settings change yet has been to change the momentary turn signal from 3 blinks to 7! Just enough blinks to complete the maneuver.

^^ No, I altered the country coding so that I could actually turn the DRL on/off in the menu. If I just disabled all the other lights and left the city lights, I would not be able to turn the DRL off at all.

I have seen the modification for the triple blink (to code it to whatever value). I guess I can highjack my own thread :D

Right now, the thing I am working on is getting BMW Live/Internet I have BMW live showing under the mini connected menu, but I can't find a suitable vin to use with the combox media

See this thread http://www.bmwcoding.com/showthread....C-COMBOX-Setup

Have you coded video in motion yet?

Ah ha. Canadian MINI, I presume.

Nope. I really don't have an interest in that mod. However, I did go through all the resources posted on the BMW coding sites out of curiosity.

My next task is to figure out TOOL32 so I can put in the roadside assistance, ask MINI, and my dealer's phone number.

Has anyone managed to retrofit the rear fog light to Countryman?

I have a project going on but faced some problems. Light switch panel is now changed and fog light switch is on its place. Programming is done and rear fog light signal is shown on dash when light switch is pressed. But it looks like that there is no rear fog light cable coming to rear light unit http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=63&fg=20.

I suppose I need to cut off the left back up light cable and replace it with rear fog light cable. Does anybody know if there is a rear fog light cable somewhere or do I need to pull a new cable from the footwell module? If I need to pull the new cable does somebody have any idea what would be the correct pin for that purpose?

Car is a Countryman S All4 2012

Thanks,
Jari

Just a thought but why not just jumper the front fog to the rear?

Rear fog light retrofit to Countryman. Done!

Hi,

Now it is working after couple of modifications.

1. Center console Switch unit changed to have rear fog button.
2. Program modification to make the switch unit work properly. Rear fog light indicator lamp is working after this.
3. New cable is needed to pull from footwell modul to rear light.
Footwell modul: http://www.bmwgm5.com/Footwell_Module_Connections.htm
Control from connector X14259 pin 14.
4. To get the right color to the fog light rear light units are changed as well.

Hi,

Can you please help me figure this out.

I brought my US 2014 Cooper S Countryman to France.
changed the control panel to make the rear fog light orange display panel to turn on. Changed the rear lights to match Europe standards (yellow turn signals instead of red, 1 driver side fog light (red instead of white reverse).
now, I just need to make to fog light come on when I activate the switch on the display panel.

Can you help me please.

I need to pass the registration control.

YCD
