Roll Cage

Has anyone stuck a roll cage or roll bar in their roadster? I've been looking for some, but have been slightly unsuccessful. Was hoping to find one that could be removed for days when I'm not at the track.

Seen the full ones in a track car R58. Have not seen any in the R59

is that commercially available or custom made?

Safety Devices is a big name in bolt in bars (have a 6 point cage of their's in my 79) but I don't see anything for GEN2 MINI in their catalog ....

Boss Frog does Miata MG and TR6 but no MINI

Hard Dog has been a big supplier for the Miata community for years and does list MINI as supported with few details while saying 'call us to discuss your needs' .....

http://www.bethania-garage.com/cages_mini.htm

with a total production of fewer than 27,000 R-59 (ruffly double that if you add the 58) there isn't too much of a market where as the Miata numbers are in the millions ....

I finally found a track that would take my Roadster, but unfortunately I'm too tall. They wanted to be able to put a stick from the windshield top rail to the roll hoop without it touching the top of a helmet. Unless I took the seat out and sat on the floor that's not happening!

Nice!
I'd be curious to know what they anchor it to? And if it is removable, as it probably takes up some space on the inside?!

thinking out loud here ....

You are aware that the hoops in your 59 are normally in their 'retracted position' and in a crash they would raise to the deployed position?

This is discussed in the owner's manual and also discussed is having to go to the dealer to get the dang thing to retract if needed yada yada

See rollover protection in the 'vert specific owner's manual
http://www.minimania.com/pdfile/2014...734.1357770187

The rollover protection system is automatically
activated in a sufficiently severe accident or
when the inclination of the longitudinal axis is
extremely high. The protective bars behind the
rear head restraints extend within fractions of a
second.
The rollover protection system increases the
safety of the vehicle occupants in addition to
the reinforced windshield frame.

wouldn't it be nice for you if you could find a way to raise and lower the roll hoops ON DEMAND ...... and a sales opportunity for others wanting ....

"all ya need to do" is find the circuit that causes the up/down in an emergency and rewire it to a switch! {except it may not be electrical in the up/down, nor reset-able .... could be a gas cartridge)

That's true for the convertibles, but ours are fixed as far as I know.
