New Roadster???

Haven't been on this site for a while .... What's the latest: is Mini going to produce a new roadster in a few years? Could affect my plans concerning my 2013 roadster.:..

There is nothing officially announced, so any information is speculation and rumor.

MINI/BMW have shown a concept at auto shows called the Superleggera. They probably haven't decided yet whether to produce it.

+1 The Superleggera Roadster is very unique! Although, it somewhat reminds me of the S-FR concept HERE.

But there are plans for an F56 Cabrio right? Maybe this fall as a 2017 model?

I thought the Toyota venture would be the Rocketman concept.

Rumor has it that the S-FR is in joint with Mazda and Toyota. The FT-1 Concept is BMW and Toyota. People are calling the FT-1 to be the new "Supra."

After seeing the MINI Superleggera in person, I hope they make it. Love my MINI Convertible and my MINI Coupe JCW, this would be a combo of the two.

I haven't seen the Superleggera in anything but pictures, so tell me, is it as big as it looks? Somehow the proportions make it look pretty long for a Mini. Overhangs also seem a little long for Mini. As a concept it looks good, but as a Mini, I'm not sure.

Found this when I googled Mini Superleggera. Now if it ends up looking like this...

It would be great. Just wonder what the price would climb to?

Thats the original pre concept drawings. does not look like that in person. Looks really good in persona and the back end is crazy cool.

Looks good, I agree, just larger than the Mininess quotient should be in my eyes. Proportions are more Jaguar than Mini? Can't find pictures from the side with people in it for reference. Are there any specs out on the concept... wheelbase, overall length?

Tail lights and tail are extremely cool. I like the red concept drawing better for a front end, even if it's even more Jaguar like.

Yea, its a bit longer then My r58 JCW, but i would say hair wider. But very close in the same size as the r58/ r59. When i saw it in person. Show cased in Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2014. Thats what pics that looks like.

We recently added the all electric Fiat 500e to our garage. While it is primarily the wife's DD I have put quite a few trips in behind the wheel.

While I thoroughly enjoy the experience of ripping through the gears on a twisty road behind the wheel of my Roadster, I have to admit I am beginning to come around to EVs.

Perhaps an electric Superleggera would be the way to go.

If the story or experience is compelling I'm quite open to alternate mode of propulsion. I've been in a few electric cars and it has never been negative (except for when I was brought back to the garage by a courtesy BMW shuttle car who used their i3. The poor guy pulled in the garage and a BMW customer suddenly opened her door and bam the i3 stroked the door. That was painful to watch and see for all parties). Moments before that I really enjoyed being in the i3 I could see myself getting one.

Most of the time I found it fun. But it's a different experience and it needs to be understood that way. Part of my love in driving the roadster is the feeling I get for the relation between nimbleness, openness, and exhaust sounds, which is accentuated by a nice exterior and interior design.
Obviously an electric roadster would have to provide a different experience all together, maybe a more luxurious feel from being so quiet, I don't know... I haven't put much thought to it. But if you nail down the experience I can see it being very attractive.

One thing that do bug me with electric is the dishonest message of ecology at times. Battery pollution in manufacturing and disposal of batteries is horrible. It just puts the burden from one place to another, and more so from one rich place to an already poor one. At the same time there isn't nearly as many just yet so right now it remains negligible, I find myself often being swayed one way, then the other.

I can see that.

The way I perceive the MINI brand is in part by the tight distance both between the front of the car and the front wheels, and rear of the car and the rear wheels. So any car with more overhang either in the front or the rear is less MINI to me.

This is also why the MINI brand works well with the BMW brand because they both share that quality in the front of their cars.

It's also hard to pull off in the back and that's an added stress to the brand feel.

I really like the back of the Superleggera. But they need to own in on it a little more. It's quite attractive and unique, yet at the same time it is a bit too classic, which is why it reminds us of Jaguar I think. Jaguar has more "classic" cues in its look. This MINI needs to keep up a little more with its modern counterparts to live along a bit better with its brother and sisters

I hope they make it. Mini needs a 2 seater IMO. The tail lights are great!

With respect, it is understandable and obvious they would never meet regulations in most countries around the world where the Mini market is involved.

This is a show car and nothing else even related to the Mini heritage.

It looks more as a vintage Alfa Romeo Spyder of the 90's.
