What to do?
Got my roadster in April, 2913... I have 21,000.00 miles... Love it... I have always turned my cars over just before my warranty expired (every three years)... My intention was to turn my roadster over for a new one just prior to April, 2016...
So: keep it and consider an extended warranty? Dump it for a mini 2-door? Dump it for another roadster , like the Miata...??? What are you guys ( especially my friends with 2013 roadster birthdays) planning... ? Keeping it beyond warranty will be strange for me... Are the mini extended warranties worth it?

Keep doing what you're doing. I grew up with my mother always doing 3 years with new Audi's. Once her lease was up, she would trade in for the newer model. It's nice being able to have a new car every 3 years, in my opinion. Unless you're attached then keep it and get the warranty.

My R53 has 9 years and 140,000 miles on it. Sure I just spent $5000 over the last year on a clutch, flywheel, new belts and hoses, new shocks rebuilt suspension, new brakes, new tires.
But remember I haven't made a payment since 2010, my registration and insurance costs are lower, and after spending the money the car is as good as my 2012 Roadster (OK, with less torque and HP). My adult son gets the car when he gets back to the states.
A car payment is $400 or more per month, I needed to save just $150 per month to maintain the R53. A huge savings.
Following Way's recommended maintenance schedule for the N18 engine I fully expect my Roadster to last as long or longer.
Car payments are no fun, my plan is to keep my paid for Roadster to 2020 and beyond.

I now have a Roadster and previously I had a Convertible (4-seat). I will happily go back to a Convertible when the new F57 model comes out as in everything but body stiffness, the Convertible did the job better and was more useful. The extra strength of the Roadster body is nice for reducing scuttle shake but that's hardly a game-changer. Of course the Roadster looks different which I undersntad is vital to some folks, but it is only the same car as the Convertible with a different windshield and no rear seats.

Bad habits are hard to break so my guess is you'll end-up with a new car . . .
We're going on two years and the roadster has been the best car we've owned so far. We intend to keep it for the long run. We love the trunk for the car size and would miss that in most other roadster or convertibles.
My principle on warranties is that they wouldn't sale them if it wasn't lucrative. With that in mind I tend to go for good maintenance and occasional repairs. It's been just fine for us that way and we still come out cheaper than more frequent car purchase + warranty cost. That's not to say a piece of mind doesn't have some value and ease.
Right now I'll be looking for an other car to replace our other car and right now I found most of the cars outer there quite a bit boring.
I don't dislike the Miata but I hope the new one has better seating arrangement than the previous one. We looked at one one day and we couldn't stand the lack of leg room for the passenger, horrible, to us...
But if I had the money to change a car every 3 years I'd be going up market, not down market.
Long story short everyone has a different take, it's all up to you and your priorities

If it's driving fun you are after, a Convertible will do just the same job as it feels identical from the driving seat - the bits that are different on a Roadster only show when you're not in the car. Indeed the Convertible is quieter and less blustery with the hood down, so in many ways it's better.

Hi Jonack,
I think you will find that you have a 4 year warranty. I would recommend keeping the car for a little longer. I still love Trinity. I am very interested in the future Superleggera but also have my eye on the M2 which should come in a convertible. I would also consider a year old Boxster GTS.
I am just not that that impressed with the new Miata MX-5. I wish they would come out with a Mazdaspeed version of the car. Another option could be the Alfa Romeo convertible. I think that there will be some good deals on that car.

Keep it and talk to your dealer about the extended factory MINI warranty before your factory one is up if you want. Could not give yup a roadster or a coupe for that matter.
