Short Shift Options - JCW

As a new MINI owner I have really been enjoying my new JCW Coupe, however my last car was a Civic SI and the shifters are worlds apart. For my taste, the MINI shifts are a bit long and notchy and I am hoping a short shift kit can improve the feel.

With that said what are the best short shift options for these cars and do they make a worthwhile difference?

Welcome to NAM, R58. Please let us know if you have any questions. A great many of our customers really like this package that reduces the throw by 20%:

I liked the Helix short shifter when I had my 08 MCS: http://store.helix13.com/helix-short-shift-kit/

It definitely makes the throws shorter but need more force to change gears. Installation is a pain, you have to drop the exhaust, remove the center exhaust heatshield, and remove the shifter cover box to access the bottom of the shifter. It doesn't replace the whole shift lever, but sticks onto the bottom and makes the lever longer. No adjustability like the Cravenspeed has but it's also much cheaper.

After installing did you need to replace the shifter cover box?

I see modified ones for sale but can't tell if they are necessary or just nice to have.

I did not install the modified shifter cover box, didn't think it was worth $100 for something I could probably do with parts from home depot. I left the shifter cover box off (because I broke the stock one while removing it...) but I felt OK about it because the center heatshield covers that area from debris anyways.

TyrolSport is the best. They are doing my re-tune next week. Very knowledgeable and great people.
