Misterious Window/Roof Openings

Hi, Guys! My neighbor always secures and locks his (new to him) Mini but came out this morning to find his Mini'sdoors all unlocked, all windows down, and the sunroof open! Called me over. No sign of vandalism; nothing missing ordisturbed inside. What could have causedthat?!? The remote which he keeps in his pocket will unlock the car but won't operate the windows or sun roof. Anybody experienced something similar or know of possible interference from some other wireless source?!? All input appreciated.

If you unlock the car and then hold down the unlock button (on the fob) for a few seconds it rolls the windows down and cracks open the sunroof (not all the way open).

I set a bag of things to take to work on top of my keys one evening. Came out the next morning to windows half way down and the sunroof partially open.

My luck, it was the first time we had rain in over 2 months... but at least it was only part way open and only a brief shower.

Misterious Window/Roof Openings

Thank you, ShipM8 and R6boater for your prompt responses. That solves the mystery! A case of not reading the Owner's Manual thoroughly and not realizing that it could work from inside the house. We'll now test how far it will work....

I would assume it will be the same range as just the unlock/lock function is.

I found my car with open windows twice. I never figured how it did happened. Fortunately, it was in my garage. This is a feature that need to be disabled if there is a way to do so.

That make sense........... and I believe is what may have happen to me. i will never put my key in the back pocket again.

Now, if the lock button is pressed, is everything secured again?

It would be interesting to know.

If you press the lock button the doors will lock but window and roof remains open

If you find someone in your area that does bmw/mini coding, it can be set up that the lock button when held down also closes everything back up. This is handy to remotely close the sunroof for example if it starts to rain.

You can't shut the windows/sunroof with the fob.

So, do you have to go to the dealer for the coding or you can do it yourself with the keyfob?

You need an obd2 cable and Carly app or NCS expert, or have a local coder do it for you.
