Window auto up option

My R56 hard top had an auto up function on both windows as well as the down and I love it. When I switched over to my Coupe I expected it to have the same function as it was 3 years newer but it does not. Does anyone know if this is something that can be added or coded?

I don't know the answer but would be willing to bet it can either be coded or it needs repair.

I'm assuming that yours does do the auto up. Its weird because neither window will do it. At first I though that the windows were just in that weird reset mode that they get into when something goes wrong and that eventually they would start working again. They never started up so now I'm venturing out for an answer.

When you open the doors, do they move down a bit?
did you check the fuses?
do they only go down automatically but not up or they do nothing when you one-touch the switch?

Yes they do and then back up once the door is closed. I didnt think to check the fuses, since they I believed them to be working. What fuse would I be looking for? and they go auto down but not auto up. If I one touch it up it will pulse up and stop as if auto up was not a thing. The other odd thing. From scooping around the forums it appears to me that any kind of window control from the remote has to coded using that fancy software whose name I cant remember right now. I can close the windows from the remote as well but also no up.

Since the windows work i thing the fuses are fine. When i used to have the windows not auto up, i would turn on the car, close windows all the way then open them with finger on switch then wait few seconds then close window all the way with finger on switch. Turn of the car. Open door. Close door. Window down one touch. Window up ine touch. Try it a couple of times. And serch for window initializing.

The Roadster and Coupe are basically the same, and on the Roadster there is no auto up, supposedly through a lack of pinch sensors or some such. You CAN have it coded, Helix did my Roadster at the Dragon. Unfortunately I lost the coding when I had an ECU change under warranty, but those few months with it were great.

Can't you contact them to get codes again?

He's probably not willing to drive from Boston to Philadelphia to have Helix do the programming again. Perhaps he could find someone local with NCS Expert software and cable.

It can be coded! Find a local person who can code or get Carly for bmw on Android with a cable and do it yourself! Good luck!

True. If I haven't got it done before I see them next I'll have them do it.

I got Carly, but with the generic adapter I have I couldn't do it. One day I'll buy the Carly adapter and have another go.

With NCS Expert there are separate settings for auto up and auto down for drivers as well as the passenger side.

Yep. Carly can do it - I believe it's in the CAS. I'm going to have to re-code my car since the dealer replaced my JBE due to a failed relay and they reprogrammed my CAS.

I was able to enable the auto window up via keyfob using the Carly app with a generic ELM327 adapter, one of the sub-$15 ones with transparent blue housings. That adapter will let me code 5 modules according to the app.

Auto window up from the console window switch still does not work, however, only auto down. I will try using NCS Expert to see if it's doable. Maybe there is a second module I need to code?

Do you remember which ECU it was in? I haven't been able to find it in my car with my generic adapter.

CAS module - comfort close with remote.

I have not been able to get auto close from the window switches, which is strange because that was the default behavior in the '09 R56 S.

The Roadster and Coupe are based on the Convertible that doesn't have the pinch sensors so the default is that the auto-up is disabled.

The ecu responsible for the the windows is the FRM module.

Unless the Carly app has been updated recently, I don't think it'll code the auto-up windows option from the dash switch. It will do it from the key fob; but if you want to tap the window switch up in the centre console and have the window roll all the way up on its own, Carly isn't able to make that happen. NCS is required for that.

No not yet, I contacted the dealer and they said they could probably program it but the cost was kind of high so I just let it go.

I had the auto up work on my R58 with the carista. Also, close with the key fob.

I downloaded the Carista app and successfully connected to my R58 with the OBD adapter I have for the Carly app, but there was no listing for the one-touch up windows. Does a person need to be a beta tester to access that option? And do you need the official Carista adapter to access deeper options, or will the Carly one suffice?

Make sure its updated to the latest version. Mine was on there with the Beta, should be on there also. Let me know if it's not.

I'm guessing my app was the newest version, since I downloaded it to my iPhone last night. I may need to contact Carista and clarify it with them. I have a feeling it's in beta-only right now. Maybe I'll ask them to give us the bulb-out codes that Carly missed too!

Update:

I just got an email back from Carista, and the one-touch up windows setting will be publicly released in the app update tomorrow (Tue 18 Apr 2017). He also mentioned they'd add bulb-out warnings at a later date.

If they keep this up, Carista will quickly replace Carly. At least the Carista guys respond promptly; the Carly people are rather awful with replies and concerns.
