R58 What oil?

What oil?
Yeah, it seems that My Precious is one that's burning oil. I've had it suggested that (a) it's typical for a MIMI to burn that much (really?), and that I should be checking every 75o miles or so.
OK, I've always put in full synth, and I think my last oil change they used Castrol 5W-30. The MINI manual recommends that and 3 MINI brands.
Costco has a sale on cases of Mobil 1. 2 questions:
Mobil 1: good or bad and why?
I've seen some posts in several threads that suggest oil consumption was mitigated by using Mobil 1 0W-40. Thoughts?
I live in CA, so seasons isn't really anything I need to consider.

98K miles, don't burn a drop and use Castrol Edge 5W/30. If you're using that much oil, sumptin's not right. I did smoke the clutch climbing one hill short of a stop sign on a recent 3 day visit to S.F. Modulating hand brake, clutch and throttle 3 cars back with one car on my a$$ on a steep hill was just asking too much without proper prior planning.

The Justa shouldn't be burning any oil. I have the '12 S w/ 49k miles and this is my wife's primary vehicle so I do not drive it often. With her driving it does not burn any oil. I have driven it and noticed it will burn some oil if I am pushing it keeping the RPM's up.
During the dealer provided services I changed the oil in between the "free" service so I had a 5k service cycle. I switched over to Mobile 1 5w30 5k miles after their last service. I recently changed it and had the oil analyzed and I am bumping my service interval up to 7.5K instead of 5k.

Both dealer and independent service personnel have told me that MINIs are renowned for burning oil, and at an alarmingly rapid rate. Even when I question that such seems...unusual...for a modern engine.

Don't know if you have an Justa Cooper or S model, if latter you should only be using an oil with ACEA A3/B4 and BMW LL-01 spec oil! If you're using oil without those specs could explain the oil burning, I started out with RP 5W-30 that didn't have the specs listed above and I burned through oil fast until I started using Mobile 1 0W-40. I got my 5 quart container at Walmart for under $27.

That's because the oil warning light measures oil pressure, not oil levels. In either cause its a bad design especially if it's known to activate when its to late. Yet another Mini epic failure!
