Help - top won't open past the sunroof position

I dropped off my R56 for service and got an R57 convertible as a loaner - the problem is, I can't open the top. I hit the toggle switch and it just opened the sunroof. I get some signal on the dashboard that looks like the car and then a piece of luggage on top. I thought it meant there was something in the trunk, but I checked and the trunk is empty.

Could some R57 owners help me with this? Am I doing something wrong?

TIA!

Check the parcel shelf in the boot, make sure it is in the lower position, then make sure that the two locks on either side of the boot are down. (They are long black pieces of plastic.)

It's very particular about the shelf and those locks being in the proper place. The top will not work if everythings not right.

Freaked me out the first time too.

I have an R57 and does anyone out there actually use the shelf in the upper position to gain that tiny bit of space??

I did once...then decided it was retarded...thus returned it to its original position to never move it again.

I do...only for the trip...

If I have to pick up both diapers & wipes from Sam's Club + the other misc things I can't leave there without.

But if I don't have any passengers, I put the diapers down on the passenger's floor & drop the top! ...So I usually go to Sam's by my self now
