WindScreen

I am leasing a new 2009 and I have had it for a week. Paying $500 for the windscreen seems very high - do the older model windscreens fit the new car? I have found several used ones on the market, but want to make sure.

Thanks
Larry

I managed to buy a new one for $350 from a Mini dealer (in Tennessee?) that sells them on eBay. The new is a little shorter, has a chrome surround, and two decent sized zipper storage compartments (that are impossible to access from the front, therefore useless with the top up).

It works great with the windows up, but if you hate that look (understandable) it doesn't do all that much with them down.

Take a look at Brownflyer he makes a great windscreen that goes on the back of the front seats. Matches the car's interior and works for half the price of the factory one. Additionally you can still use your back seat in the process. Here is a link to the forum.

Thanks Tron Chief. I have spoken with him about his screen and it is not yet ready for the 2009. When it comes the back seats, I am 100% no one will ever sit back there. My seat touches the back seat when I am driving and I do not see any one sitting behind the passenger to often.

With the aftermarket one, the seats would need to be at the same distance to work properly I assume and with that, the passenger seat would touch the back seat as well. Back seats are storage mainly for me if I ever need them.

Link to the TN dealer? I found one in NJ with this link which I think is the new one?

Thanks everyone...Only had the car for a week and I am loving it!

I found an older model windscreen for $150 and I am getting it on Wednesday. Hopefully, it fits like I have seen in other posts.

Are the mount points in the exact same location and the exact same size for the pre-2009 cabrio versus 09/10? I was told NO by the dealer and on every site that sells them they seem to specifically state it is for pre-2009. I did notice the 09/10 screens sell for more.

the windscreen I have was used in a 2006. It slid right into the connection points in my new 09 without problem and fits like a charm

I have a 2009 R57 and can verify that the Pre2009 windscreen fits snugly. If you were to leave it in the vehicle permanently installed, there would be a "dent" made in both of the backseats. I decided to get the new wind screen afterall.

I have to disagree with this...Mine does not fit snugly at all, it fits perfectly. NO marks on my seats

That's great. The difference could be the different types of seats: fabric, punch leather and lounge leather. I have pictures posted showing each wind deflector in place.... I'll have to find them. When I have the new one in, the seat isn't touched by the frame at all. It' s very close but it doesn't push the leather like the old deflector did. It's interesting that some have been able to use it with out that happening. I like the style of the old one since it has the checkered flag on it and the vertical part of the deflector seems wider.

Will the old ones work on 2010 models?

Any change in the interior of the 2009 and 2010 convertibles that would prevent the old windscreens from fitting in the 2010's?

The pre-2009 wind screens will work. Read up in this thread and you'll find several reports of people using them.

Still looking for a good price on the older model or a used one. If anyone comes across a good sale on these please post it here or pm me!

You guys are awesome! I purchased a 2010 MINI Cooper S Convertible BRG and traded in my 06. You saved me a bunch of money in trying to sell the old wind deflector and buying a new one. My old one works fine for me. Thanks!
