Static when using Ipod connector.

We just pick up a 09 Cooper S conv. thanks to uncle Sam's CARS program.

On our drive yesterday, we plugged in an ipod and later an Iphone.

Both gave us a little static coming from the Tweeter. Anybody else experience this?

We're taking it back to the dealer next week to get the stripes put on. Just wondering if this is a common problem.

TIA

Peter

This can be caused by an incorrect Aux Input Volume setting

This procedure is for a Non NAV car but should be similar in a NAV equiped car

1. With iPod/iPhone disconnected (it must be disconnected to make this adjustment)
2. Press Audio
3. Select AUX Input
4. Press button under AUX-VOL
5. Adjust using rotary control and set at mid level or lower.
6. Plug in iPod/iPhone and check.

You may need to adjust the input volume down even lower if the problem still occurs. If the input volume is set at it's lowest level (i.e. no or one bar showing) and the problem still exists the dealer will have to fix the problem.

The aux volume setting affects the iPod connector? I would have thought that only affected things that are using only the aux input.

To the OP - Do you have a charger plugged into the iPod as well? If you do there might be a ground loop interuption, try unplugging it from the charger and playing. If static persists your problem lies within the charger.

As the OEM iPod adapter uses the AUX input the AUX volume will affect the input volume from the iPod/iPhone

Did you mean to say if the charger is disconnected and the problem goes away then the problem is in the charger.

It depends on what the OP meant by "Ipod connector". The Bluetooth/USB Y connector uses aux input, but the dealer-installed secret compartment iPod adapter uses the CD changer input.

Y connector is what I used.

I've tried that. still got static.

Even tried to fiddle with ipod or iphone's volume.

Probably got some kind of electrical wiring problem. Will have dealers check it out.

In that case there are three connections that could be loose or a bad ULF Module. The dealer should be able to fix this rather easily.

Sorry to hear you are having such a problem.

that thing just has an all around crappy connection. mine didn't work at all when i picked up my MCS. and i'm referring to the Y connector. dealer installed a new one after trying to hunt down every possible wiring problem. now anytime i go over a largish bump or nudge it a little in any way it makes a static noise. i just smack the cable around until it stops. i don't want to be in another rental for a week.
