I ordered my 09 Cooper Convertible with the Ipod/Bluetooth kit. The seems to work well except for the fact that I keep hearing people say I sound "Tinny" when I talk to them. I have also heard that I sound "far away".
Has anyone else heard these complaints? Also, is there an easy way to move the Microphone from the steering Column to somewhere else? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So, when we have my wife's iPhone 3G connected, the people on the other end say we sound far away as well. The iPhone 3G is officially supported with the Mini.
However, when I used my AT&T Treo 750 (which isn't officially supported), it sounds great, however the Mini crashes the bluetooth stack after about 2 days worth of use.
I'm guessing it may be a combination of where the microhone is, and how Bluetooth has been implemented on the phone.
People say I sound pretty horrible when I call from the car. Obviously, sometimes this is due to the top being down, but I've done it with the top up while driving slowly and they still say it sounds pretty bad.
One sure-fire way to test the sound yourself is to call your own voicemail. Try it with your Mini, then with your old headset. One thing I found was really annoying was the turn signals. You can REALLY hear those on calls.

You may be sounding "far away" because the BT mic is installed on the passenger side of the top controls. The thread has a thorough walkthrough, including a YouTube clip, of how to move the mic to the driver's side. It's a fairly quick, straightforward mod, as long as you don't have the factory alarm installed. Not sure if you can do this on a Cabrio though...
Hope this helps.
