I havent seen much mention of the brushed alloy interior and wondered if anyone else chose it besides me. Ive seen lots of talk about piano black, English oak, etc but nothing on brushed alloy. I took a risk picking it since all I had to go off of was a picture, Im hoping I wont regret it. I felt a little relieved to read Dave's review that mentioned it looks good. Im keeping my fingers crossed.

It would be good to know if it's actually metal or just a plastic made to look like alloy. Info I got said it was plastic, so I went with piano black.
R53 = Alloy Patina = Plastic painted with a damp sponge
R56 = Brushed Alloy = Real Metal with real texture
BIG difference
I owned an Alloy Patina dash for over 3 years and have seen the R56 Brushed alloy in person. They are two totally different animals.
BIG THANK YOU!! This string just "saved my bacon"!
My MA told me way back that the brushed alloy was plastic. For that reason, I had PIANO BLACK selected because I decided to "black out" the interior (headliner etc) as much as possible. I DID NOT want some kind of PLASTIC "representing" as METAL. He clearly had this mixed up with the alloy patina. I just CAUGHT my car in time, as the build probably starts next Monday (I HOPE!). My first choice was an "industrial" sort of metal trim look against the black and black/grey leatherette seats. So I'm now ON with BRUSHED ALLOY.
So SERIOUSLY....THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH!!

I just discovered that when you order brushed alloy dash, the DASH is metal. On the DOORS, only the small piece in the middle is metal. The big loop oval on each door is PLASTIC.
Go to google and type BRUSHED ALLOY DASH MINI ... You'll see a NAM link about it. Go there... pics of a blue 07, showing the difference clearly...red arrows and all for clarity.
I'm a little disappointed to find out the big loops on the doors are plastic, but I like the look of the metal on the dash, so I'm stickin' with it.
It's stated that the pics are UK cars, but I'd doubt that this changes for the US.
If they offered it. I had ordered Piano Black until I had confirmed it was REAL alloy, and got the order switched just under the wire. I wish the door "loops" were alloy, too, but I think it'll be just fine w/ the Pacific blue trim, chrome rings, and leatherette. (Lightning Blue w/ Black roof) Coming to my neighborhood dock on Feb. 20th.
Is there a way to have real alloy in a R53 instead of the plastic?

I've been pleased with the fact that it doesn't show fingerprints and smudges like the glossier options.

I also have the brushed alloy and really like it. I wanted something that wouldn't scratch easily, or show fingerprints. The configurator wasn't specific, so I was a little disappointed that the door ring was NOT alloy, but plastic.
I too was dissapointed that the door rings are plastic.Discovered that here on NAM after I had ordered. The brushed alloy may not show fingerprints, but I wiped my very winter dry skinned fingers across it to feel the texture and left some skin behind.
I almost got the brushed alloy on mine. The dealer had a car with the exact interior I was looking at...Leather Punch Carbon Black, Rooster Color Line, Anthracite headliner, and Brushed Alloy interior. I wanted to have a black and red theme in my car (since the exterior is CR/B) and so I decided not to go with the brushed alloy because of the gray oval on the door. (I ended up picking the Piano Black with Chrome Interior instead.) Otherwise, I really liked the way the brushed alloy looked and wished that oval would match better!
Anybody else with Brushed Alloy Trim find that those gray matte door ovals don't wear well at all, and the paint comes off quite easily? Aside from the fact that they don't match the rest of the Brushed Alloy (which I can deal with), they have no finish at all on them and are quite delicate when it comes to scratches/smudges (i.e. sunscreen from your skin) that are not removable. It seems that the slightest abrasion from almost anything wears the paint right off! Our Clubman is only 2 mos. old and we've already noticed damages on two of the upper door trim pieces (and we're very careful) ! Looking for some easy/alternative form of protection. Tried clear contact paper unsuccessfully (that leaves air bubbles due to the curve and looks bad); seems like painting or applying some sort of clear coat would work but might get expensive in terms of labor protecting/removing the door panel.
Anyone else noticed this problem? Dealer suggested replacing with a different trim but did not know the price. Anybody have any idea how much it would cost to replace just the door rings/ovals with Fluid Silver trim pieces? As careful as we can be, the door trim will look pretty bad before too long. Never had this type of problem on ANY car we've ever owned; expected more from a $30K car.

I have it, and I love it. No smudges, and scratches will blend right in
