High-Pressure Fuel Pump AGAIN?

At around 8,500 miles, the HPFP in my '13 MCS Hardtop died a few miles from home. I barely made it back and the car had to be flat-bedded to the nearest MINI dealer, an hour away.

Yesterday, at just under 34k miles, at almost the same location on the same road, there was a sudden loss of power, lots of vibration, and an engine warning light: same symptoms! Once again, I managed to limp the short distance home by keeping the RPMs low, called the dealership and waited for the flatbed.

I thought the HPFP had been redesigned so that this was no longer a problem! In 45 years of driving -- and I've had a few real clunkers -- no other car of mine has suffered a mechanical breakdown on the road, let alone two. OK, there was the time that the '51 Ford overheated, but it was an antique.

At least the car waited until after I got home from about 1,500 miles of vacation driving. Maybe the NJ Turnpike was just too much for it.

I'm still on my original HPFP with no problems. Try avoiding using fuel with Ethanol in it.

How odd. I also have a 2008 Clubman S with the original HPFP at 51k miles. I sure hope we didn't just jinx ourselves. Nothing but ethanol gas here. too.

Good news! Sort of: it wasn't the HPFP, it was two ignition coils. Still, you wouldn't expect that at just 34k miles.

At least it's covered under warranty, but I'm starting to wonder if my wife's Kia Sorento wouldn't be the safer bet for future long trips... (Sacrilege!)

Ouch....34,000 miles on OEM coils....
Think the wife's Highlander got about 180,000 before I swapped out 3....
I did hear there was an "improved" OEM part in the supply chain...
Good luck!
