Any idea why I would get a P28AA - BOV - Bypass valve code after top end rebuild?

Any idea why I would get a P28AA - BOV - Bypass valve code after top end rebuild?

Im getting this code P28AA now after hard acceleration on quick deceleration. Other than that its running great after the top end re build. Anyone have ideas before I check with the dealer. I really don't want to after I did all that work!! Thanks!

Try unplugging your diverter valve and plugging back in.

Are you on a tune? Is this the original valve? I replaced my OE one cause on a tune after a while it wouldn't keep up (opening/closing)

Thanks for the reply! Tried that, also swapped old turbo DV to see if that would help. It didn't. Current turbo/DV has about 25k on it. No tune, stock except CAI.

Does anyone think this could have happened because I did the noise maker delete?

Thanks for your ideas! I'll double check vac line, it was working before rebuild. Car has a newish turbo at 20-30K. I tried the DV from the old Turbo with the same results. So I think that rules out the DV. Thanks for your offer though. Also no weird noises. I removed the intake to see if I missed something when I assembled the top end but all looked good and same results after re-install.

The code only throws if I quickly let my foot off the gas. If I get on the gas and then slowly let the gas off I get no code. To me it's almost like maybe it's not dumping enough boost.

No tune. Only mod is CAI and that was on before the rebuild.

Now its throwing this code. P2885. I see a lot of threads on this with no clear answers besides a new turbo. My turbo is pretty new though at 20-30K.

Many times the P2885 code is a companion code to another fault. Also a descriptive code for limp mode, not just a boost deviance, you need to find a dealer level tech tool and really see what is going on, a generic P-reader isn't going to cut it.

Checked and double checked, everything is good.

Discovered last night that my blowoff valves rubber diaphragm got shredded. Any idea what would cause that? Turbo only has 20 to 30k so its not age. I looked at it days before it blew and it looked fine. Could I be getting too much boost some how or not dumping enough boost?

Actuator arm on wastegate moves as it should. Not 100% sure how to check the Boost control unit bolts. I looked with a camera and all looked well. Should I pop the intake off? What am I looking for? I didn't mess with it when I did the top end rebuild besides taking it off and putting it back on.

Did you check the electrical connections? There is another connector in the vicinity that is plug in compatible with the BOV and will reach. Can't remember which one it is at the moment though. Getting old sucks

Yep I know the one. It had been working for about 500miles then it blew out. I put the bov from the old turbo in and I think its blown as well. That one only lasted 50mi.....

Put a new BOV in and that seemed to do the trick! Thanks for the help everyone!! I don't understand why the old one went out as it worked for about 500mi although it was throwing a code the whole time (it had 20k -30k on it). With the new BOV it doesn't seem to have as much boost though.

Before I bought the new BOV I tried A vacuum operated BOV and couldn't get it to work which was a bummer because people have a lot of great things to say about them....

Bottom line is it seems to be working great now and has worked for the last 300mi. All of the hard work I did on the engine rebuild feels like it has paid off now... what a relief!
