2013 R56 Cooper Reliability
I am considering purchasing a 2013 Mini Cooper with 33,630 miles from a Mini dealer in my area (link below). This will be a 2nd car and used primarily for city driving. The car includes the Cold Weather and Premium Package 2 and appears to be in great condition. The car is being sold as a regular used car rather than a Mini Next Certified. Probably not a big deal (??) since the original warranty expires in 2017 and I won't be putting a lot of miles on the car. Do you agree?
The dealer advertised the car at $17,000 but recently offered at $16,500. This seems to be inline with Kelley Blue Book but on the higher end.
What have been the common (if any) reliability issues with the 2013 Mini Cooper? What other things should I consider before purchasing this car either related to the price and or future maintenance or major service repairs? Appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

I think it's a safe buy, but I can't comment on the value vs asking price (just haven't researched it). Too bad it's not a white roof and mirror car...
We basically bought the same car 1.5 years ago, with slightly less mileage and 3 years older, for $15k. It runs like a Toyota so far, already at 51k miles.

CPO would extend the warranty for two years. That would be a big deal to me. Can't comment on the $16.5k price other than to say CPO is a significant factor in price.
Those wheels were indeed Gen1 wheels that were discontinued and then brought back on the Gen2's. Commonly called "holies," they are very light.

Thanks for the explanation on the wheels. I like them.

I have pretty much exactly the same car, except with more miles and out of warranty. I haven't put too many miles on it since I got it (around 10k) but it sea OK so far *knock on wood* with lower miles and extended warranty it seems like a pretty safe purchase. I may be wrong, but from my research that I did when buying my car, all the horror stories about Mini reliability come from 1st and 2nd generation early years and were mainly about the turbocharged versions. I may be wrong though.
