Will rear brake pads from a JCW fit on a Cooper S?

The calipers are the same. The JCW ones are just red. The rotors and caliper brackets are what is different. So if you want to go to the larger rotors we actually put together a kit so you can convert to the JCW size rotors and use your stock calipers. The brake pads for the stock and JCW are also the same pads.

How do you know...

How do you know if rotors should be replaced? Warning light came on and subsequent check of codes said that pads were worn and needed to be replaced. Should rotors be replaced every time you replace the pads? What does Mini recommend? What do you recommend?

There is a spec thickness. It may be stamped into the edge of the rotor? If the rotor is at or below that thickness (measure it!) it should be replaced. If the friction surface is grooved (enough to catch a fingernail on) and the thickness is just above the spec, replace the rotors. Otherwise, have them turned (ground flat again) if doing so will leave them at or above the spec thickness.

Some people just replace them every time; I don't think that's necessary.

I was turned away from 2 placed when I wanted my OEM discs turned. Both said they had not been successful trying to do it in the past. (they had no financial gain by refusing to do the work).

I ended up replacing the fronts and running with the rears as is.

Can you recommend a brand of rotors that have treated you well for $40? The price of OEM rotors are pretty steep. Thanks.
