Replaced Water pump and thermostat

A few months ago, I replaced the water pump on my 2008 MCS with 96,000 miles on it. It was running fine and 2 weeks ago, my check engine light came on. I went to Autozone and they said the code was P0597, So I ordered a new thermostat and replaced it. In the process, I pulled the water pipe out of the other side where it connects to the water pump, so I just pushed it back in, finished installing the thermostat and refilled the coolant. The check engine light was still on when I finished it so I took it to Checker and they said it was code P0597 and p0118. Now, it makes a sound like something is brushing against something else on the side with the water pump. When I start it in the morning, the check engine light is on, it idles rough and has a hard time getting going... But once it warms up, it runs fine. Any ideas what it could be? Maybe the water pipe went too far into the water pump? I have no idea. I've disconnected and reconnected the wire connectors several times. Thanks!

P0597 = Thermostat heater control circuit / open
P0118 = Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High

Lets start with the obvious.
Reset all check engine lights before proceeding, otherwise old lights may be confusing your debugging efforts.

Possibilities:
1). What is brushing against what - is it just the normal serpentine belt noise, or something else? Track the source and remedy!
2). Did you use an original OEM thermostat, or something off eBay ?
3). Are you sure you plugged all the harness plugs correctly, especially to the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) ?

My bet is on either a bad CTS, or a bad replacement thermostat.

HTH,
a

I'm not sure whats making the sound.. It sounds like its from the belt or water pump.
I bought my thermostat from ECSTuning. It says it's genuine MINI. http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2008-C...ostat/ES25098/
I recheked the plugs and I put the temp sensor from the old one back in. I'll see how it starts in the morning since it'll be cold.

Unplug them and plug they back in they snap in. Its a genuine MINI Part for OES and of course the genuine. We had only one thermo sensor go bad in a very long time factory. Also make sure you filled the coolant all the way up and have all the air out. Bleed , bleed , bleed. If the coolant is low in the thermo you can get a sensor error.

Check for item that fell near the pulley for the water pump of the fiction pulley, sometimes makes noise when it gets coolant on it. See DIY.

Were you able to identify the issue(s)?

I have a similar problem and would appreciate knowing what you found....
