What happened to my stripes?

2014 Coupe purchased 4/14. Garaged. Washed twice at home, once in $5 automated convenience store carwash. The 2 black roof stripes are losing color, almost like water spots, the 2 black ones on the spoiler are fine, the red ones are fine. I use regular carwash soap and spray wax from Detailers Paradise (Hydro). I emailed my MA. Looks like defective material to me. I bought the car off the lot in Scottsdale, so it had sat there for months before I bought it. WTF?

Polish it and then see if it restores the color. I did that on my old stripes before I completely removed them.

Ouch, same thing happened to mine. They couldn't even explain to me what was wrong....it must just be crappy quality vinyl.

Call in to have them replaced! I told my dealer as long as it keeps happening, I'm going to keep taking it in....ridiculous.

Polish it with what? I thought about using Black Wow, but that's only for plastic and doesn't make sense. I will make them replace 'em, it just baffles me that it happened after I bought the car. It was sitting outside in Scottsdale and they must have washed it a lot there.

Hard water, possible chemical etching from that convenience store carwash (shame on you!).

Try a couple applications of Black Wow, though. Might've just stripped the oils out of the vinyl and the stripes just need some restoration.

Try using 3M Swirl Mark Remover...

But if those marks are etched into the vinyl, it's likely that nothing will restore it...

It did seem to happen after that carwash and it spent the weekend in the Scottsdale sun at a hotel. But the other black ones are fine. I have Black Wow but this seems beyond hope. Maybe a black Sharpie lol.

Thanks, I emailed my MA about it. They need replacing IMO. What's weird is the other 2 black ones up there look completely fine.

It couldn't have been the wash at the dealer, they used filtered water.

Yea same here, the coupe is known for only the roof stripes getting bad, I had mine for months and couldn't stand how nasty they got.

It looks like hard water deposits to me--or maybe just dirty water deposits. The water pooled on the roof because it's the only horizontal surface the water couldn't roll off of.

Could be. The dealership said they will replace them when they get their order in about 6 weeks.

If it is water spots, you can use a clay bar to remove them, then polish.

I have a clay bar too. Can't hurt to give it a try, the new stripes don't come in for weeks.
