Hmmmm...unless I am missing something, this started out as an aux water pump issue. How did we transfer to a timing chain/tensioner issue? My MCS was built 1/11. Which brings me to a POINT. The MCS's produced after 1/18/11 apparently have no aux water pump issues. How do I tell the DAY of manufacture, and how can I insure that "that day" was the cut-off point for the crappy aux water pump? My production "date" listed on my door VIN is 1/11. Which day? How do I know that some crappy pumps or "black boxes" (controllers) didn't make it into production on the same day? Is there any definitve way to tell the DAY of manufacture? And would it really matter?

There's no way to pin a single day on a production date, you can call Mini USA. You might get someone smart and you may not, you got nothing to lose. I believe if your model had the same aux pump as those that were recalled Mini USA would know about it.

First my timing chain failed. It'a a 2008 with 30K miles. Mini coverd it and then the water pump failed and they didn't cover that. It cost me over 1K to have the aluminum replacement and they forgot the turbo heatshield. What can I do to recover my waterpump repair?

The water pump is not covered by the recall. It is the auxiliary water pump that was covered by the recall.

Hi all,

Is this campaign still running? I'm bringing my 2010 in tomorrow for possible death rattle (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...th-rattle.html). Will MINI cover any repair costs? I hope so LOL. Thanks.

Talk to your local dealer. Give them the VIN and they'll tell you if your car was affected, and if so if the recall has been done on it.

R&R water pump (aux)

Anyone?
As long as you have proper tools, you can drop it out the bottom and replace same way. One bolt is hidden. The other two are a pain. Don't forget to detach wire connection and anything that's connected to pump.

I just had my auxiliary water pump replaced December 31, 2015. And had to have to have it covered and paid for by my extended warranty, wish I had known about this earlier. Wonder what I should do now?

Just because a part is recalled and replaced doesn't mean it still can't fail! The recalledmand replaced part would have had a one year (maybe 2) warranty. Easy to find out from a dealer if it was replaced.

Stainless exhaust?

Quick question, is the stock exhaust on a 2011 mcs stainless?

2011 R56 engine fire

I posted this in the spontaneous engine fire thread as well...
Long time no see guys! Well I hate to be in this thread, but my 2011 r56 caught fire after being parked after a normal drive (on Christmas Day). Luckily I saw it and got it out out with a garden hose before it lit my house on fire! It's been a frustrating so far with low ball offers from insurance since it is a total loss. I've filed a claim with the national road and safety link on the first page here and in contact with MINI/ BMW for an investigation. What has been some of the outcomes from MINI on this. My car didn't have an open recall but seems to be identical to the water pump recall that caught so many cars on fire... sorry I didn't read through this whole thread I'm sure my question is answered somewhere.

Aw, sorry to see this. If the insurance bids are so low, have you considered buying it back and parting out? I'm assuming the damage is limited to the front end? Seems like there would be a lot to salvage. OR fix the body damage and pop in a used engine. You'd have a salvage title, but might have a fairly cheap DD.

I use this website to research my part numbers:

https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder

When it decodes my VIN, it shows a production date for my MINI & my BMWs. Do you think that's accurate?
