I have a 4 year old.. no issues. You can always test drive the car with your kids in it.

I just have one four year old, and the back passenger side works for him with the seat pushed all the way forward, to prevent his feet from hitting the seat.
Getting in and out of the back is not too bad, but depending on how tall you are and how tall your kids are, if you have to push your seat too far forward it might be a hassle. I would definitely check it out first, and maybe a Clubman too.
Good luck!

I'm thinking it would get old quickly. Add the fact that if you live in a state with snow that the there is very little room for wet/sloppy/salty/dirty boots and the back of the seats would be covered in it. If you are not worried about resale and don't mind getting out and re-adjusting your seat each time you drop off the kids have at it. I consider the back seats as overflow seating and used only for very short trips (used about 5-10 times a year). Would you consider the Countryman? Good luck.

Depends on how tall you are. If my boyfriend (6 foot) is driving then he has the seat back most of the way and legs won't fit in the driver's side rear seat. If I'm driving (5 foot 3) then I can have an adult sit behind me comfortably.
If you are tall, and both kids will need to be in the rear at the same time, you might want to look into a Clubman or Countryman.

I think you all are underestimating. My friends are a two MINI family, couple with a six year old daughter. I often ride with them, mom and kid in the backseat, dad and I in the front. If you're a family of six footers, maybe not so much, but I definitely think the MINI's back seat is useable.
Another anecdote, I'm right on the cusp of 6', and in the summer of '09 I took a 6' 15 year old, along with a 5'6" 13 year old home from a bike race in Alabama back to Houston. A fourth person in the car might have been too much, but with them alternating shotgun/backseat, there was plenty of room for us humans and our gear.

My 2¢ I've had a Clubman and 3 Hardtops and though there's obviously more room in the clubman I hated the awkward suicide door set-up on the passenger side. I thought my dog would like it better - turns out he didn't care for it either. Good Luck...only you can make the right decision for you.
