Has the rear bumper cover melted?

Has anybody seen anything like this before? I think this happened sometime in the last 1-3 months. The car has not been hit or had anything happen to it. The rear bumper cover seems to be deformed on one side. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the exhaust got too hot and deformed the plastic.

It's conceivable that it came from the factory like that and you've not noticed it until now. I never know when I see something how long it has been like that (unless it's really egregious).

I have the same thing

I noticed mine a little over a week ago, but I figured someone had tapped the bumper while I was parked in a lot. Yours seems a bit worse than mine. I only saw it when I was putting something in the trunk, so it could have been like this for awhile. I know it did not come from the dealer like this, I would have noticed before, especially last summer when I put in fog lamp lenses.

The idea of heat damage from the exhaust never crossed my mind. Could it really only affect one side?

I just took some pics and put them in my gallery.

Smackboy's car got smacked. It really looks like someone bumped the bumper, especially since the deformation is to the side of the exhaust instead of directly above it. Also the whole bottom edge of the bumper to the right of the exhaust is displaced compared to left side <middle picture shows this condition really well>. Fortunately, since there is no paint damage, it can probably be easily and cheaply fixed.

Look under the bumper, you'll see only one side has a brace that holds the bottom of the bumper. If someone tapped it, it would be enough force to bend or push the brace.

Benibiker is right, the passenger side has a brace. I was able to bend mine back a little by hand. If the driver side got tapped, it would probably be unnoticeable. The brace bent and held the bumper in the deformed position.

Thanks. That was exactly the problem. The metal brace was a little bent. It's really soft, I could have bent it just by pushing on a bit too hard while washing the car.

Cool, hopefully you can adjust it or bend it back.
