Slow Leaks...Loose Tire Pressure Sensors

Hey, I just wanted to relate a story.

I have had my mini for about 6 weeks. About a week after I picked it up, I got a slow leak in one of the tires. I took it in to a tire shop, they pulled the tire and couldn't find anything wrong. They thought it might be a bad sensor, so they replaced it (for free).

So yesterday I got another leak, and this time the tire would not hold air at all. I drove it in to the tire shop on the run-flat (luckily it was close). This time they pulled the tire and noticed that the tire sensor was barely even hand tight. They checked the two remaining tires, and their sensors were also VERY loose.

I was very pleased with the customer service at the tire shop (America's Tire, in case you are wondering), they worked on my car twice without charging me a penny...but somebody at Mini or my dealership dropped the ball on checking the torque on the tire pressure sensors. It would have been a real bummer if this problem had surfaced on a long road trip, instead of just running around town.

If you get a slow leak/flat on your new mini...make sure and check the sensors!

Happy Motoring...

Same exact thing happened to me with my '09, shortly after I bought it.
Someone at the dealership had obviously replaced one sensor; the valve stem on the leaky one was different in color from the other three.

Nearest dealership is two hours away, but Discount Tire is only 45 minutes away, so I put the runflat to work.
The tire guys put new o-rings on the sensor and torqued it properly; no charge, and no more leak!

Wish I knew this, I had a slow leak a month or 2 after I bought mine back in 12/08, ended up replacing the tire since the mr. tire said they don't fix run-flats

I developed a slow leak as well about 16k into my oem Dunlop runflats which were gonna be replaced anyways. When I did get my tires changed, the one wheel wouldn't hold air as air kept leaking from the valve stem. Turned out to be a loose valve stem core which was easily tightened with a special tool. Have one of those now in my toolbox just in case.

Glad I saw this post. One of my tires has a slow leak too. I just switched my wheels out for the winter set so I didn't bother getting it looked. But I will definitely keep this in mind.
