EDLC?

I just watched this video: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/A...ini_679798.htm Where a JCW is being driven around a wet track. The driver has some very uncomplimentary things to say about EDLC. What he says doesn't sound like what I've heard about EDLC at all, it sounds like he's still got traction control on, is this how EDLC really works?

What I understand is EDLC will brake the spinning wheel, which would allow more power to go to the non spinning wheel, which should be a win in the situation he's describing (exiting a corner under power). What he's describing sounds like what the traction control does, robbing you of all forward power. I'm wondering if he had the system set right, but I'd like to hear from people who have EDLC and what it really does in extreme conditions like this. (I'm thinking on the track specifically.)

I'm just thinking ahead, I like to know what I'd get with the next MINI, though currently we have no plans for a next MINI. I've been thinking that DTC/EDLC would be a good thing to add to a MINI build, specifically for when we're on track. Now that LSD is no longer an option, and JustaCoopers never had an LSD option, DTC sounded like a good idea. I'm usually very happy with the job the DSC does for me, at least it never usually intrudes in my driving. Its only recently that I've even bothered to turn it off on the track, I have to get pretty enthusiastic before I feel its presence, but if it is getting in the way, I like to be able to turn it off. The problems the driver was describing sound exactly like what prompt me to turn off the DSC.

It's all the the programming

and just like the original DSC, it seems that the programming of the eDLC is a bit conservative. It's also possible that being really over-aggressive with the throttle in a low traction situation could result in what becomes a much more intrusive mode of operation.

What he was describing sounds like ASC, rather than what I've heard about EDLC. I wonder if he actually turned the other systems off? Supposedly, the DTC system allows you to turn everything but EDLC off. If you leave the other systems on, I believe you have intervention from ASC that does cut engine power. This is all theory, based on hearsay and internet info. So, take with two kilo of salt.

Wait question. I have DTC and thought if you have DTC you have like 3 modes for traction control, I mean at least I think I do. First mode is with all of the traction control on. Second mode with DTC on, and third mode with no traction control on but with the EDLC if I am correct. Also with everything off I have never have any power cut coming out of the corners from what I can tell. Also, if you look at the video none of the DTC lights or traction control off light are illuminated on the speedo, so I would assume he did not take any of the traction control off. And another thing, why does the JCW have winter tires on for a performance test?

The 08 I'd say.

I thought he said fastest.

It was odd that they used winter tires on the JCW, and 20" performance tires on the VW. Interesting what he said about the 20" wheels being a disadvantage, and causing the transition from grip to slip to be sudden.

Another question is whether that JCW had standard, sport, or JCW suspension. Seems that if they were comparing it to an aftermarket tuned car with suspension mods, they should have used the JCW suspension option.

Turn off everything but EDLC, put summer tires on it, and a JCW suspension then see how it does on the track against the VW.
