Behavioral questions - Dealer states all three are normal...

I took the car in for a squeal coming from the engine bay (water pump?)...it couldn't be duplicated so I'm letting them slide on it but they said the 2 other issues I have are by design.

I'm not certain if they're just being lazy or telling the truth so can someone clue me in?

1) The auto wipers don't kick back on after coming to a stop. That is to say if I have the auto wipers on and come to a red light, when I start driving again I have to hit the button to switch them off, then back on or else they simply will not wipe.

2) I understood the folding mirrors to fold out automatically at speed if you forget to do it yourself. They stated the mirrors only move when you use the switch.

Thanks for your help!

#1 is BS the wipers should start to work again after a stop and also wipe if it has been more than 60 seconds at a stop. Tell them they need to fix it or show you in writing from the factory that it is proper operation (which it is not as that would be illegal in many states)

#2 No the folding mirrors are not automatic if you forget to turn them out then they will not go out automatically. In fact I think it even states that in the manual.

thanks! I originally said three because they claimed I had to push on the window visor in order to get the light to turn off after opening it, but called back and said nevermind they just replaced it...

I'll bug them about the first one! thanks

My water pump went at ~1,000 miles. I've heard lots of others on here with the same problem, I'd get them to at least check if they can.

Wipers should keep working.

I had my waterpump replaced at @ 3K miles, but the squeal is still there, and much louder with this waterpump (they used a remanufactured one).

I'm now being told that the squeal is a normal noise and there is nothing else they can do for me, and I should try and "live with it" for a while. This is all due to the fact that a regional engineer listened to the noise and deemed it normal.

I am now in the process of drafting a letter to MINI USA VP Jim McDowell, hoping he'll be able to take care of this for me. It's sad that I have to go to this extent to get something fixed under warranty.

Good luck!

For me, the waterpump squeal was noticeable after the car had been driven for longer than 5 minutes. It also only appeared at idle.

Mini should only use new non reman parts while the car is under warranty .
