I think it's better to post here since all types (I have a Clubbie) can use a push button system. I don't understand how it can take several tries for the push button to catch the starter when I stall. I accidentally stalled in traffic about a week or two ago. I put the car in neutral, held down the clutch and pushed the button. Nothing happened. I had to push it down again and the second time, it caught. I noticed that the button had a tendency to do this when I was trying to learn my way around a stick shift. Does anyone else have this weird problem? Should I wait a few seconds (even if I risk angering the super-impatient guy in the jacked up Suburban behind me?) or should the car be able to start up immediately after it stalls?
You do have to wait for a second or so. The problem is the car doesn't immediately recognize that the car has stalled, so the first push of the button is actually shutting the car off, then the next push starts it.
you know, I have been wondering this can you start the car of a roll like you would with a key one.
What is the on position at which the engine would start if the car is rolling, and you let go of the clutch

Yeah, your owner's manual specifically states not to try a rolling start. Not sure if the onboard computer would record it, but if it did and there were damage, it would presumably void your warranty for the damage done.

I've had this issue before and in a panic, I remember having to hit the button a couple times. As I'm stalling, I push to clutch back in to try to recover it. When I don't, I just push the button (a couple times) and away she goes. However, I think I remember one time, where after I stalled, I let the clutch all the way out and then pushed it back in and pressed the start button and she started right up with one push.
I was in the middle of traffic and in a hurry, so I may not be remembering it right, but I think that's what happened. So, try letting the clutch all the way out after you stall and back in again to start and see if that works with one push of the start button.

Stalling in a Cooper is scary. It felt like it took 30 seconds to get the car going again after stalling for the first time. Actual time was probably more like 15 seconds, but it sure feels like a LONG time when you're at an intersection.
Eh, you'll be able to laugh at yourself. ;) The only times I stall (now) are when I'm just f'ing around or not paying attention - I dump the clutch and forget I'm in gear, usually. That's embarassing. I do it in the parking lot every couple months - start the car, then forget to take it out of gear when I take my foot off the clutch as I sit and let it warm up/cool down for a sec. Ka chug cough.... hahahaha.
Yeah, I've done that too. I've also parked mine and thought I'd turned it off, let out the clutch only to find out that I hadn't. Now I check the rpms before I let my foot off the clutch.

Done that too! But - I've never had a problem restarting the car after stalling on the first press! Usually when I stall, it not in a high stress situation. I think about what a fool I've just been, shift back into first (even if already in first), press in the clutch, and about 6 sec later press the button. Vroooom.
