Rooftop Carrier

Now that we are a two MINI family it just dawned on us that it might be a little tough getting to the airport. Three people in the car doesn't leave much room for suitcases. Has anyone used a decent-sized rooftop cargo carrier to take backpacks/duffel bags on a one to two hour trip? I did search for other threads, but the Thule 1600 someone else recommended is ridiculously expensive and looks too flat to hold anything.

I use a Thule box - though I don't remember which one. Love the amount of storage it gave us. We take long trips with 2 large dogs and the box allows us to pack all our stuff and take the dogs.
Here's a photo of ours on the MINI

Suggestion: I'm buying the stock MINI cargo-bars, and have already acquired a "Yakima BasketCase" mini-basket (garage sale: $25) which attaches with "Yakima Universal MightyMounts" ($35-40 new) to both the MCS and my Subaru cargo-bars.

Other option: I have a small rear-basket for my trailer-hitch, which I like a LOT ... see gallery
