Single or Double VANOS

Good Day:

Does the R56 have single or double VANOS?

Thanks and regards,

Brian

Here's a good reference to the R56 engines.

Two Different Heads?

From the linked document:
For the MINI Cooper:
Camshaft adjustment – Hydraulically, infinitely variable phase adjustment of intake and outlet camshafts.
Engine management/fuel supply/ignition – Digital Motor Electronics with integrated management of valve drive/sequential multi-point intake manifold injection/individual coils, knock control.
For the MINI Cooper S:
Camshaft adjustment – Hydraulically, infinitely variable phase adjustment of intake camshaft.
Engine managment/fuel supply/ignition – Digital Motor Electronics/sequential high-pressure direct fuel injection/individual coils, knock control.
The heads seem to be made at different plants and to different specifications. I am still confused.

The Mini Cooper (N12 engine) has double VANOS.

The Mini Cooper S (N14 engine) has single VANOS, intake only.

I Understand!

Thanks:
I got confused when the maintenance manual (TIS) showed a picture of the Cooper engine when explaining repairs on the Cooper S. The picture showed the 2 camshafts and eccentric shaft of the Cooper.
Here is how it stands:
The Cooper S has variable valve timing (phase control) on the intake valves only.
The Cooper S has a conventional throttle and does not have variable lift control on the intake valves.
The Cooper S has conventional (fixed) timing on the exhaust valves.

Thanks again,

Brian
