Overall Reliability

Just wondering how "reliable" 07 and up MCS are. Any annoying thing overall? I know people have been having problems with littles things like rattles, noise, or sunroof issue...

5 weeks and nothing but smiles and people pointing, saying, "What the f is that? I like it."
Saw three MC on a two mile stretch on an afternoon beer/martini run!

I've found the best vanity plate is no vanity plate.
That throws off the yuppies.
"But Lulu, how could he NOT have a vanity plate."
"Maybe he's making a statement, Chad."

I've had three couples who are PARENTS of a kid who own a Mini, come up to me in parking lots.
"My daughter would like this. Are you married? Do you have a steady girlfriend? If she's not serious, you should meet my daughter."
That's the strange thing. They act like the Mini is a grand child. Strange and funny.

Only 4,000 miles and my car's been sitting at the service dept for 2 weeks and counting... Not sure what that says, maybe I'm the lucky one in a million... I know my service dept gets for trying...

I think you will have so wait for at least 1 o 2 more years to know how the 07 are and possible big problems.
today I think there is no car that gives you problems in only 1 year

I've had several mechanical problems with my '08 MCS since buying it in April. All have been repaired to date.

Some have problems others don't but that is like that for any make and model vehicle.

If, and I say if, one believes what Consumer Reports publishes, the 07 and later models are supposed to be well above average in reliability.

I'm an online subscriber, and CR gave the MINI Cooper a white circle (average reliability) in their big list o' cars. However, if you dive in deeper (click the car, and go the the stats tab) you see that the MINI Cooper and S are rated as full bullseye (the best rating) while the cabrio is rated at the white circle. I guess they pick the lower of the ratings for the overall car rating, and the cabrio is still the last iteration. The 07's 08's certainly feel better made, for what that's worth.

Then again, it's all a probabilities game. It doesn't matter what the overall average experience is. All anyone cares about is their own experience, and they're just trying to increase the odds of a good one by choosing a car that other people have had luck with. I'm coming off a Lexus, and even it had a little thing here and there. But I decided to roll the dice with the MINI because it's an endearing little car.

I've had my 07 for one year now and have zero problems. No rattles or squeaks. Just fun. Haven't made one trip to the dealer yet.

My car has been perfect. I wish all my cars in the future will be like MINI in terms of quality.

Huh? both of my last two BMWs had problems out of the gate. The Cooper's been good for me so far - nothing like the major problems I had with my 03 e46 and 06 e90.

Now if rattling or squeaking counts as a problem, then my Mini and every car I've ever owned has problems. I consider rattles and squeaks to be a part of car ownership. Every car I've owned - japanese, german, english, etc - has had rattles within weeks of ownership. Hell, I drove a 2008 Clubman S today and it had rattles. That's part of cars, imho.

When I think problems, I think of broken HVAC (like my e90), broken e-brake (e46), bad coils (Jetta and e46), bad electronis (e46 and e90). Grinding brakes (e90).

14 months, no real problems to date. Had to make one trip to the dealer to fix/replace a secret compartment mechanism that was rattling.

10 months, 9k miles, driven very hard. No problems... one seriously annoying rattle at 4k rpm. Otherwise perfect.

My car (2007 MCS) just passed 20K miles; I bought it in April 2007. To date the only problem has been a missing clip that secures the interior trim to the tail gate. It was repaired at no cost to me.

The car has no rattles, shakes, or other oddities. The overall milage has been 31 MPG for all driving since new. I have been very pleased with my MINI and would, and have, recommended it to many people. It is common for people of all ages and apparent interests to come up and ask about my experience with the MINI. Quite a few of these folks are in the over 50 age group.

Happy trails,
Joe S.

Oxybluecoop -- I would have waved if I were out there; keep trying! We're going to have to do something about training these new MINI owners better....

Doc Cooper: I hope this thread helps answer your worries...I've had two MCS (an '04 and now an '07). The first I ended up selling at 18k miles (it was iDENTical to the '07, husband made me sell it ) with no issues besides me hitting a deer, and then only cosmetic. The '07 and I have been together for a year now, and we're still in love. The only issue I've discovered is that when it hit about 110 degrees after raining, the sun roof was sealed shut. I had to give it a little umph and it was fine.

Happy Motoring!
