Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Nooooooooooooooooooooo....

Ok maybe a little exaggerated but still....

I was driving my MINI today and I was headed down the road and a SUV swooshed a plastic bag infront of me and it blew and then it was my turn and it hit the front of my car and I kept going. I could nto avoid it on the highway.

I got home and parked my car and went got the trash cans and noticed when I was walking back the front of my car had looked like dirt all over the front.

I got a closer look and AHHHHHHHHHH White Paint all over my newly installed Black Grill Trim and my hood and bonnet stripe.

What should I do to get this stuff off My car is dirty because of all the snow etc, should I wash it? Longer I wait the worse off I am or the quicker I get it off the better? Bring it to a detailer, How much with a detailer cost? Help!!!

This might sound too simple but this could be water based paint. Have you tried just washing it off with detergent and water? In a small area of course...

The White color is from the white plastic bag...warm water and McGuires Gold will do the trick...this worked on the wife's Volvo...Slow and easy will do the trick on removing that white plastic goo

3M adhesive remover. Smallish gold and black can that can be found at most automotive stores (Pep Boys, Autozone for example). I keep a can in the MINI for removing road tar and gum ..... along with some microfiber towels. Requires a re-wax after use ..... but it works!!

good old fashioned soap and water with scrubbing should take care of it. make sure to wax it afterwards. My older bro drove over some white road paint a long while ago....made a big mess, but is pretty much gone now.

OK everyone thanks for all your suggestions. It was freezing out I took some hot soapy water and it came off with a tiny bit of elbow grease. PHEW I thought my paint was a goner, never had this happen to me before.

Really? The plastic bag just rubbed onto the paint?

Glad to hear it came off so easily. I ran though some tar a while back in my RX-8...that took a long time to get off. Still find remnants of tar in my wheel wells.

I has at a traffic light one time and was helpless to stop a plastic bag that blew onto and instantly melt on the left side pipe of my Cobra once. I took hours with Mothers polish to get it all off.

I'm glad you were able to get it off quickly, otherwise I'd have to find a random bag during my commute to Hartford so our cars still match!

So white plastic bags bad, banana peels okay.

What else could a mellow yellow run into and be okay?

OUCH, Kevin! Sorry that happened to you.

Good call on the source of the problem. By the photos, I thought that it was paint, too. Did it come off of the new grill trim?

These rogue plastic bags are a real problem. They become permanent landscape features when they escape. I work for a land trust and find them in the most remote places. Old ones especially have a dusty texture to them when they are dry so I can understand the bleedover when wind-whipped against paint. Add some winter road film to start capturing particles and the patch initiates and grows. Ouch ouch ouch.

Bags found on riverbanks and floodplains have been found to harbor staph colonies and have to be handled with care. Plastics as biological substrates: didn't think that that was possible. Yikes.

Anyway, plastic bags damaged someone's treasure: we can add that argument to the debate on paper vs. plastic...

Wow...that's interesting. I think we all learned something new today. Pity the roads are such crazy dangerous places.
